Hello running friends. How are you? It’s time again to pull up a comfy chair and get the kettle on and tell us how your week has been. This is the place to share your news: the good, the not so good and everything in between.
My running is going well. It’s not terribly exciting but at least I’m running! I think I might need my gloves soon though. Usually I need gloves and hat long before I venture into winter running gear as my hands and ears feel the cold first. I will head out shortly but it’s going to be a windy one today as I can hear the wind howling outside and the trees are swaying furiously, but if we waited for perfect weather we’d never get out 🙂
I don’t know about you but I rarely read running magazines. When I first started to run I read everything I could get my hands on but now I go online for my running fixes and, of course, come on here 🙂
However, last week, on a whim, I bought a Runner’s World magazine and on the first turn of the page I saw this advertisement for ASICS which I really love. The more often I read it the more I liked it and so I thought I’d share it here for those of you who haven’t seen it yet. I think the words are so spot on in many ways and I love the tag line that “A personal best is not a number. It’s a feeling”.
Of course, if you’re a world class athlete then a PB is all about the number but I’m sure the feeling is in there too. I can imagine that one goes with the other even at that level.
Reading the ad makes me want to head out and try for a PB! But that will have to wait for me for a wee while….
Have you ever seen an advertisement that resonated with you? Or made you want to lace up and head outside? Or stayed in your head during a run? Tell us here 🤗
Share your news and favourite ads and enjoy reading what your VRBs are up to as well. Maybe it’s time for a second cuppa 🫖☕️
Whatever you’ve got planned for this week, have a great one and if you’re on the IC then we’re sending loads of healing vibes your way 🥰
Until next time,
From The Team xxx

🎽 If you have an event in November and would like a pompom cheer from your VRBs on the Friday beforehand then head here to give us the details:
The reward is the 2023km’s run. It has been a hard year for a number of reasons & I’m super thankful that I’ve been able to keep my running consistent through it all. I will probably have a weep. Smile, or you’re doing it wrong 🤣
I am an advertiser’s worst nightmare! I just don’t read or listen to their no doubt carefully crafted offerings. I like that ASICS one though. I do like some of the messaging in the NRC runs. Some of us (lots of us?) need to be encouraged to see a slow run as a success; in fact any run is a success! It may be that I am more receptive to those messages given my age 🙂
I did a 10 mile PB last year, but didn’t even notice! 🙄
Like you, I am not swayed by advertisers and what I find interesting is that when I read this ad I didn’t want to immediately go and buy something from ASICS! Maybe it’s not great advertising on their part 😕
My only excuse is that my Garmin has been set for metric from the outset, so it doesn’t record 10 mile PBs. I was looking back at the run months later and thought that it was a bit quick for me…so I looked back through all of my other 10 mile runs and found that this was the best I had done. 🙂
I braved the wind rain and chill this morning with a 45 minute easy run with Shalane (NRC). It was never going to be a PB 🙂. It felt good though; the emphasis on taking it easy, settling into a rhythm and listening to Sharlane’s Marathon experiences all helped. I only managed 6.20k, VO2max docked me the point I grabbed back last week 😡, but post coffee and brownie, a brisk walk home and a shower, I felt restored. Maybe all runs are not about time; how you feel afterwards is the thing 🤷🏻♂️.
I have to admit that, despite packing my running kit and thinking I’d go for runs while on our trip to Oz and NZ, I’ve only managed 3 parkruns and a single solo 5k. And, you know what, I’m not bothered. I’m averaging huge numbers of walking steps and having the trip of a lifetime. The running will wait until we’re back home!
⁸Morning IP and all VRBs ! I don't buy magazines anymore so wracking my brain for a good line, atm nothing coming to mind! I love the logo on one if my run club vests, "it's a hill, get over it!" but I'm not very practised on hills atm! That will have to change though as......
I have set myself a challenge for the new year though after seeing the medal for next year's Ryde 10 which is in February. The medal is another pretty one and might motivate me!
Any southern locals fancy it?? Was thinking of you Dexy5 , UpTheStanley and Mudita11 !!! ! Xxx
The only funny shirt message I have is one bought by my daughter. “If you see me collapse, pause my watch!” I might have been a bit over keen on PBs in those days.
I've done this one a few times,it's hilly(straight into a hill from the start pretty much!) but has pretty views when you get in the seafront! The last time was 2022 when the medal was v pretty too!!! One of the club members designs them! 😁
Hello 😀 adverts are funny things, I can't recall any that I've even noticed, sad eh? Love the ASICS quote though. After tailwalking at parkrun I went out Sunday for a slightly longer slow run, Monday I dog sat.....and that was pretty much it, apart from some walks, not long ones it's too busy out there for him to cope with long walks in the day time, some indoor games so he didn't get too bored I sat, it was lovely, having him snuggled up next to me and warily watching the cat incase it moved.
My V02MAX is decreasing my fitness age is increasing, but I'm still getting out for a few runs a week, I can hear wind and rain, should have gone earlier 🤔.
I’m on dog walking duty today 🐕. It’s blowing gales and a bit squally. A big tree has come down in the park which is a sad sight 😕. They’ll replace it though I think as they’re pretty keen on their trees 🙂
The poor old dog tumbled on our walk and bloodied his nose 😢. I was more upset than him of course ☺️ A cuddle by everyone in the pet shop and a goodly treat had him restored and we were soon back out there. He’s been asleep since he got back indoors and seems none the worse for his scrape 🙂
It has been pretty vile out there and we can only do what we can. It was so bad here this morning that we drove to see a neighbour rather than walk. But now the sun is shining and I may even get out in the garden 🙂
Snuggling up to a furry friend is one of life’s pleasures 🥰 Enjoy the cuddles.
Hello Irishprincess , I like that phrase, and so true. I enjoyed my GSR far more this year than 2 years ago despite the fact I was slower.
‘Complete, not compete’ is often my mantra after recovering from injury. Taking part is often more important.
I just managed the 2 runs last week, mainly down to the weather and other appointments I think. One was my Saturday parkrun which was great fun.
I signed up today for a virtual Christmas challenge to keep me going through December. 12 runs of Christmas by the Great Run people. The medal is also a Christmas decoration.
That Christmas challenge looks fab. A run and then a reward in the form of a Christmas decoration! Perfect 🏃♀️ 🎄 Although I have way too many decorations as it is but you can never have enough 😍 I might look at that challenge myself Dexy……
Don’t we all? Most of my decorations have a link to a holiday or a happening in my life. But I don’t have a Christmas decoration that reflects my running. O that’s a good excuse. 😂
I see they are in garden centres already and have been for weeks! We always get ours in early December and keep it outside in a bucket of water until we need it.
my niece made me a runner’s key ring for my gym locker (when I went a few years back). I hung that on the tree as it’s so pretty. It’s a fabric decoupage running shoe🥰. She’s made me one for my bike lock key as well but that’s my initial She’s making Christmas tree hanging decorations for family members this year based on their photo 🫣😁
Great post here.... I have just put a post up on C25K all about weather!
I love , as you know the sayings and the mantras re running... the smile one from RunWillie is wonderful!
You are doing so well, Maj! You have had a rough time over the last year! Out there and running is the thing, and you are doing it!
I am trying to head back to full strength, runs are there, but intermittent as I work my way back up to 5 then 10K...but gosh.. life is throwing some curved balls right now...so, if I was choosing some words right now, they would be words I have used many times... Not for an Ad... unless it was for the IC
I did have a running mag subscription for a year but only because it was a gift. I never bought anything out of it but I did once get a free summer cap 🧢
I’m not shooting for PB’s at the mo as I’ve got a painful ankle. Once it’s ok I’ll speed things up a bit as I’m fed up of only engaging first gear every single run 😁 I need to increase the tempo a bit just to keep warm 🥶. I had three layers on for my last run plus a bobble hat and Buff round my neck🙄
My ankle has been grumbling for weeks 🙄🏃♀️ I did some yoga stretches yesterday and it’s been better since then. Dog walks today so I’ve generally kept moving.
I'm not much of a magazine reader (give me a good book please) and I don't watch much TV either, so I manage to duck most adverts. I do like the sentiment in this one though - I'm getting better at finding non-number PBs from my runs, but it's very much a work in progress (just another running challenge 😀).I'm plodding through my plan, moving stuff around when necessary, and frequently marvelling at how much running is a part of my life these days. Happily so 😊
Have a great week everyone (or at least what's left of it).
I hate adverts on the TV with a passion and try to avoid them at all costs. I remember a scare here several years ago where there was a rumour that the HU site would have pop up ads and a lot of us said it would then be time to go. Thank goodness that never materialised 🙀
Sounds as if your running is going splendidly Linda 😍
I can’t get telly on my telly for some reason. OH said he’d fixed it but it’s not showing any live tv at all I don’t care and I’ve not missed it I only use it now for playing fitness DVD’s 💪
There used to be some clever, funny adverts. On progs OH watches they’re always for cremations, leg exercise gadgets, hearing aids and comfy chairs and slippers. Oh and meals on wheels! 😁
