My friend and myself, along with 59,998 other runners toed the start line of the Paris Half Marathon on Sunday. To say it was busy is something of an understatement. It took 10 minutes of very slow jogging before there was any space to move. Then, I either tripped over my own feet, or got caught out by the uneven surface, and went over on my ankle & down in a pile just after mile one. Jumped up very quickly (as you do π), and hobbled on.
Meanwhile, my friend had a old hip injury resurface at the 6k point. We reconvened at the water station, and decided we would pull back the pace & focus on finishing. We stayed with the 2h 10m pacer until mile 9, and as the adrenaline started to wear off, we eased back again. We hobbled in together, finishing in 2h 25m. A new category of race - the 3 legged race, was born and we won it π.
It's a brilliant event, and the finish at the Place de la Bastille, with crowds and bands & noise is something else!
Back at the airport, and while the flight was delayed, despite her hip injury and my big fat ankle, we booked the Copenhagen HM in September and Valencia HM in October!

Blimey well done on getting through to the end in a very respectable time considering the injury. I hope it recovers swiftly and you are able to get back to training for those lovely marathons you have booked for later in the year.
Well done on finishing the Paris HM despite everything Teresa1632 ! Shame you missed out on last week's pompom cheer though, it was a City of Lights special!
Get a partner and run the 3 legged race, you'll get a podium place π. Good luck with your run, may the course be flat and the wind at your back πββοΈπ¨
Iβll be happy to finish it to be honest. Itβs a test to see whether Iβm going to book Perth marathon this year. I suspect that Iβm not fast enough (yet). If I can do it in under 2.5 hoursβ¦I might be ready.
You have to be joking Β RunWillie ! Of course you'll be able to finish your HM, and I suspect in way under 2.5 hours. That comes in at near enough 6:55/km pace, close to my HM PB. I set that during marathon training so it included a fair bit of vertical.
You're younger and faster than I am, and you train way more. As I've mentioned before, you're putting in way more miles for your HM than I did for my trail marathon! I honestly think you're seriously underestimating yourself.
I love Cmoi confidence in me & all the encouragement I receive from everyone on this awesome forum. Iβm going to try and channel that on Raceday. Letβs see if I can bring my fast legs π€£
Thats amazing. Well done! It turns out I was in Paris last week for my work with a group of students. Of course I had to fit in a couple of runs but they were really early in the morning. I ran from the Louvre past the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe and back. Even though it was dark it was an unbelievable experience. Paris is a lovely city.
Ah, my nemesis! I was signed up to the Paris HM during the pandemic and missed it, then meniscus troubles, then ovarian cyst trouble, but I'm back on C25K (week 2) and signed up for the La Parisienne women's run in September (aiming for motivation).
If any women want to run it, it's a fun event, I've done it before, round the Paris landmarks (although there are a few cobbles)
Oooh, you'll love it! I've signed up for Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia HMs all Sept/Oct so won't make this one. Let us know how you get on. Sounds fab! π
