How can February almost be done? I spent most of this month waiting for my daughter to complete the purchase of her first home; she finally got the keys on Thursday and life is now full of shopping, decorating, cleaning, decorating, packing, decorating, lifting, decorating and unpacking...
I think I'm Joggling (it's a thing: running and juggling en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joggling ) - only it's life I'm juggling rather than balls!!!
I still managed my long run at the weekend (got up super early - for me - so as not to lose too much decorating time). It was supposed to be at an easy pace and the four (yes, four!) phone calls along the way proved I could indeed chat away β I managed to miss a turning though, so ended up running through a muddy field (in my road shoes) followed by a long walk home π. When I came to record it on my training plan, I discovered it should have been a 12k run not a 10k π€·ββοΈ(I could have run that last two kilometres after all) - oops! I guess I'm a bit distracted just now, and whilst distractions can be very helpful on a long run, I think I need to focus a bit more!!! Just posting this then off for an quick and easy 5km this morning before picking up the paintbrush again - I'm going to concentrate really hard and hopefully won't get lost today.
How's your running going? Life getting in the way for you too, plan adaptations required? or is all going smoothly? Or maybe you fancy trying a bit of Joggling! Do let us know what you're up to!
Here's to a great week, everyone!!!

I wish I could juggle balls. It might make juggling everything else seem easier!I've overdone it the last few days so I'm doing some plan shuffling and definitely having a rest day today.
Long runs will now be 8 miles and above so time to start thinking about hydration and nutrition. I've never worried about it before, just taken water if it was above 10 miles and hot, but I think I need to be a bit more organised now I'm that bit older, and maybe wiser.
Joggling: love it...must make navigation a but tricky! Running's been focusing on my partner's venture into C25K... a fanatic in the making!π I'm slowly building up to my first half, maybe by Easter. At 64 I find it's the recovery time that's soooo much longer so finding the 'flex' bit of the Strength & Flex programme is proving really...err... useful!π Getting there, when I work out where π€£
First house for your daughter, how exciting! You're a master joggler, managing to still fit in your longer runs and all that packing/unpacking and decorating πππ I'm slowly building up my running. I was planning to attempt my first 5k since Christmas this weekend but the weather was so lovely that I decided to opt for longer walks with my other half and the dogs instead. For now I can do either long walks or run, not both because of my foot. It's slow progress but I'll get there! Especially now that the days are getting milder and longer. Loving the feeling of early spring in the air at the moment π·βοΈ π
That sounds like a good decision to make the most of the nicer weather. The runs will always wait for you and having got this far it's worth waiting a little longer. Enjoy that 5k when you're ready π
Glad your daughter got keys! Exciting but busy times!! I was supposed to do 12k yesterday but ended up with 11.7 frustratingly as I ran out of road and didn't have time to start back out again ππ My legs are a tad achy today but I'll get back out tomorrow all being well. I think Joggling is definitely a thing....with life not balls π
11.7 still counts! All the more so for having squeezed it in amongst everything else, well done. If you keep tomorrow's run really easy, then your legs will probably feel better for it.
Lots of joggling here - home schooling, work and general life admin. I have had a bit of a break from running over the last week as my knees have been niggling, I think because my calves and hamstrings got really tight. I've been doing the Running Channel knee strength workouts and lots of foam rolling so fingers crossed I'll be able to take my new shoes out for a test run tomorrow.
I don't envy anyone who is home schooling, I think I would have been very bad at that! Good luck with that test run tomorrow, I hope the knee behaves itself.
Ooh new home how lovely. I hope you both have great fun sorting it out. I've had an amazing week of activities. Last monday was a 10mile run which was good but I really felt it in my quads. My vo2max also dropped from 41 to 38 π€Tuesday and Wednesday were strength training with my 11kg toddler hugs, lots of lifting and running around then a 1ΒΌ walk round and round the village pushing his pram as it was the only way to get him to sleep. Thursday was meant to be a short slow recovery run but turned out to be a fast 7km bring vo2max back to 39. Friday a 7.5k muddy walk, Saturday a fast 10k sunday more toddler weight training after a 19k bike ride and today another fast 10 run taking vo2max back to 41. Great excitement in our area too during that time - a murder in the village, domestic, and on the dusl carriageway passing the village a police chase and crash seizing Β£75k of drugs, a police chase and crash resulted in 2 14yr old girls with serious injuries and 14 and 16 yr old boys with minor injuries- joy riding. The area is swarming with police, totally unheard of. Happy running everyone, keep running, keep safe, keep out of trouble π€
Wowsers, that could be a tv cop show GH! What excitement, albeit not of the fun variety! Sounds like youβve had some great runs though, and toddler weight training. Theyβre so heavy, especially when they want to get down! How does that work? π€£
π€£π€£ funny how the 1st sound like words are da (whose posted away just now) hiya, bye and up. I think mummy hugs doesn't entertain the up command, I'm the soft spot
Crikey! That's a lot of activity - both your physical adventures and the wider adventures of the village. It all sounds very sad. I bet the local police force don't know what to do with themselves!!!
Unfortunately the two cities either side of us, probably like most cities, have problems, we just seem to be stuck in the middle at the moment π’ I hope the teenagers are ok.
Hi Linda and chums! Gosh, you are joggling arenβt you Linda? I find that house stuff (decorating and cleaning) is more tiring than running thatβs for sure. I bet your daughter is proud to have her own place though. π
Groundhog week for me, all good even so. πββοΈ πΎ
I need to dial back my mileage as Iβm in danger of finishing LEJOG4 too soon, and I want it to end with my HUHM at the end of March! I only have one more long run of 10 miles planned before my HM on March 13th/14th (letting the weather decide which!), but I canβt possibly go out running or dog walking without my Garmin so I need to be strict with how far I go at other times. Canβt miss (not) PR either. Crikey, who knew simple exercise could be so complicated? π
I'm glad it's not just me who ends up in mud because of a monkey mind!!! Well done on catching the hat - a new version of a fartlek run, chase the hat! Soup and bread for me too - but straight out of a plastic pot on account of all the painting!
I remember seeing a joggler or two at the Toronto Mara in 2019!
Yes your first home is so much work. I sympathize with your life joggling!
This last week was fun. On Saturday I helped support a couple of friends tackling a βgroundhog dayβ hills challenge and on Sunday I had a long lovely solo 20 along and on a local (mostly) frozen river. Got fully lost, took lots of morning light photos, and ate plenty of snacks along the way. My kind of weekend!
Sounds wonderful π itβs very soothing isnβt it A long, lone run with snacks Far from the madding crowd π
I was thinking about you the other day when while bread-making i came upon a recipe called βDeckerspeziellbrotβ, which translates as Deckerβs special bread. Itβs German and uses spelt flour, or βdinkelβ as itβs known there ππ
Hah! I love bread! Any bread! I must look into my bread namesake now!
Yes the solo was wonderful and I found a trail that followed the river, which was frozen and cross-able in spots and fast flowing in others. The frosted grasses were just beautiful. And I got completely lost for some time too. And we just got Spotify at home so I had all new tunes for a change
I feel exhausted after reading these posts ! My only joggling today has been with adult care workers (not mine, in case you were wondering !!) care home, garage and hospital. Mainly telephone stuff. BUT, I got out for a planned 6k and completed it with no ill effectsπ. My Achilles grumbled a bit after 5k but eased off after a couple of minutes; I just kept running. A bit of steep down hill mud slaloming didnβt help; I almost went base over apex...but finished the run safely with bags of energy left. Just shorts and a couple of shirts today and a bit of warmth from the evening sun. π
Telephone stuff can be exhausting too - I always feel very drained after those sort of days. Great news on the running front though. Hopefully the achilles grumble is temporary, just a side effect of the time off that you've had. Shorts? hmm. Up north? In shorts? π€
Some of the exercises are aimed at ankle flexibility; they may be the culprits. Have iced it. Feels ok now. Will drop a line to the physio to check. My calf feels great so overall the treatment has been a success. The shorts? At school we were sent out into the snow to play football in shirt and shorts; the masters had track suits! It was an amazing 10 degrees today and hardly any wind, so quite comfortable. π₯Ά
First home, such happy memories for many of us πLuckily for me I canβt paint as Iβm allergic to the fumes and feel really ill. Even if I paint outside I have to wear a mask and take lots of breaks. Such a shame as I enjoy it.
Anyway, Iβve done two weeks of 5Kβs and felt I could increase so today did 6K and was delighted with zero niggles so Iβll slowly get up to my usual mileage again, whoop whoop π
My knees have even coped well with kneeling/squatting in the garden again so I can see my little bulbs up close and personal πΉπΌπ₯ happy days.
That's great news on the running front IP. There's lots of signs of spring out there now, and nothing says spring quite like emerging bulbs. Funnily enough all I can taste this evening is paint! I'm blaming the gloss paint I used - quick dry maybe, but very smelly and 'fumy' definitely!!!
It's so easy to cause a probkem and takes so much longer to fix, but it's always great to get back out and appreciate running all over again . Enjoy π
Very true. I sort out problems others canβt, usually through e.mails, papers, listening to people and seeing pathways through issues.. We all have different gifts; quite happy that mine donβt include sanding plaster or wielding a paintbrush!!π
I saw a joggler on the way back from my run yesterday. I thought, how is he managing to do that and run that fast on a pavement all at the same time without falling over, dropping the balls, and bumping into someone?
I canβt juggle for the life of me. I canβt even do that rub your tummy and pat your head thing π
My son also moved into his new house last week. I havenβt been over yet because of lockdown but not long now! Yay! Canβt wait to see my grandson again π
That must've been an amazing sight - it must be quite a skil!!! My youngest learned to play the drums; I couldn't do it for the life of me - both hands playing different beats. My daughter has moved by herself and is still local so I am assuming it's OK for me to go over as she can be in our family buble. I'm also a tradesperson in this capacity, if necessary I could insist on an hourly rate π
Hello there! Well done on your long run. I was about to restart running, after seeing physio on Weds, plan was to do short runs alternate days until seeing him this Weds. BUT! I went to volunteer at the vaccine centre, and ended up having the jab which is GREAT as it was entirely unexpected, but to be honest it did floor me, no way could I run Fri/Sat/Sun and then was at the centre again all day yesterday so I've still not been running! I've put my kit on today, so the comeback starts (again!) here hopefully. I am postponing seeing the physio as the whole point was to have tested the glute with some running...
Ahh, but well done to you for volunteering. I just booked my vaccine for a week Saturday - maybe I'll get my run in before I go! That;'s the end of a cutback week - shame, that might have been handy the week after rather than the week before π€. Hope the run goes well π€
It really hit me quite hard. Mum (75) had no side effects, no sore arm. Myself and a few others in the 45-50-ish age range all got quite stung by it! Glad you have yours booked too. My short run yesterday was quite hard! But felt good and no ill effects/swooning on return to base!
Hiya everyoneFirst Houses are every exciting and something you always remember, and how lucky that you ate near enough to be able to help.
Today my son is finally getting the downstairs replastered, they've been trying for about 6 months to find someone to do it but it's been all start stop. Other soon head head no working boiler for at least 3 months! Oh the fun of your own house π€£ππ€£
I love painting and decorating but absolutely hate rubbing down paintwork, I got my son to prep all the woodwork when I did the stairs I told him it was in exchange for all the lifts I have him π.
I'm still working my way back through the ks so far so good. The thing I find odd is that even though I'm walking for a minute every 4 - 5minutes my 5k time is much the same as when I did it all at a run?
Anyway when I was out last week I thought of you Linda and had a giggle when I saw twenty yes 20 magpies !!! π€£π
My daughter is working so I just had to wash a very sooty ceiling - twice - myself ... grrr! Her friend's hubbie is a plasterer - keys Thursday pm, plastering finished Sat pm. I told him she had no idea just how lucky she was! Great to hear you're building distance back again with no issues; I too was surprised how efficient run/walking is when I tried it last year. I shall be using the same technique as I build back again π
