How are you getting on with your training? Tell us how you feel so far!!!
What's the best thing you've learned/discovered since starting this HM training - do share!!!
I know many of us are pining for real races, and it is good to see one or two of the smaller events are now going ahead with careful modifications, but how have you found our virtual races? Weβd love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions for improvement perhaps.
Good luck to our 10 milers this week. Check out our Woohoo boards for the results of the virtual runs so far, and let us know if you have a result to add:
Are you disappointed thereβs no virtual race in the calendar next week? Worry not, we have an alternative challenge just for you; purely optional of course, but if you accept the challenge do LET US KNOW how you get on
Either run naked for the whole week (no headphones, no looking at your watch)
or take the three minute burpee test (how many burpees can you do in three minutes?)
Whether you choose to accept one of the challenges or not, we hope you have a fantastic week!
P.S. If you have requested to join the Strava club and I haven't accepted your request, it's because I don't know who you are!!! We will only accept HU members, so PM me or pop a comment below so we know who you are on Strava and can then accept your request.
I'm well in there with those challenges π My challenge is going to be to run with headphones so I can hear the instructions from the RunGo app for the MK Half!
Ok am I the only one who thought burpees were something different π€£π€£π€£. Couldnβt work out why burping would help me run. Should have looked at that picture closer!!! I even googled it. Feeling like a twerp now π
Now you've seen it you can't unsee it! So that's your challenge for next week then???? Ignorance was the better place to be in my humble opinion! π π π
Three minutes Burpee test sounds fun πππ I'll give it a go but it won't be pretty or impressive πππ I'm enjoying the virtual races/challenges, thank you for organising them, its helping to "push" me along and its lovely reading everyone's race reports. Good luck to the 10 milers this week from me too I'm hoping to join in with the next one.
The main thing that ive learnt since starting my HM training with this group is not to be so hard on myself, I can take it easier/jog/walk if I want to, its my challenge and how I feel (energy/niggles or will power) over the weeks even day to day is different. I'm learning to notice that, adjust, not compare and definitely not beat myself up over a "rubbish" run its part of the process for me and I'll get there in the end πππ oh! I've also learnt that apparently if I don't go out regularly even for a run/walk I'm not fun to live with lol!! ππ
I've said it before, the words burpees and fun do not belong in the same sentence!!!
Those are fabulous observations, you are so right. Life changes and the best thing we can do is try to adapt. As for being grumpy if you don't get to go for a run/walk - well, time for the people who noticed to adapt and get used to it, or to make it possible for you to run, their choice!.
Average for women was 48 in three minutes, 56 for men - but the average age of the people taking part was 18!
Note that the burpees in the test are not strictly burpees because instead of dropping to a pushup with chest to floor, it's just a jump to a long-arm plank then back to the squat, which makes the move quite a lot easier!
I will simply stand, with both feet on the floor and slowly and gently bow to your awesome energy. I would be unlikely to get beyond single figures π€ͺ
Burpee test for mee π. My effort will probs be pathetic in comparison to everyone but the alternative challenge is not to be contemplated (giving up the watch π¨no! don't make me give up the watch ! π₯Ί).
Training went well last week as regards the long run - two (not) parkruns with a run between the two locations. The first parkrun was my "home" parkrun and running familiar routes helps with getting distance. Dropped the pace and whilst never easy, it was comfortable enough and HR was good. Total distance was 13k (furthest yet) and am on target for getting to 10 miles later this month.
Yesterday's run was a baddie as regards HR - only wanted a 5k trot but the usual problem came up and had to drop to walks three times before abandoning. Each time I tried to resume the HR just shot up. It's the first really bad one for at least a fortnight so I'm just hoping that it's unlucky timing (I will also take Guinea70's comments above to heart and not beat myself up if things go wrong).
Target this week is to get about 30-32k worth in with a 14k-ish longrun. The parkrun linkage idea is nice so will try to plot another route between two more.
It must be very frustrating for you, but no point fighting these things, we do have to try to adapt. Hopefully next time will be plain sailing for you.
ππ burpees or running naked....errr...neither π€£π€£
Onto progress tbh I think my base milage was up on what the first 4 weeks of hm plan had in store so my long runs have just hit 10miles but should be 8.
Legs feeling good on LSR's at a steady 6min kms . Interval sessions now upto 6 x 400m and hitting paces im proper chuft with. Also finding that I'm not dying after them too now as well.
Almost forgot to do the burpee challenge this week so tried this morning after my run which probably wasn't a good idea. In 3 minutes I did 32 very ugly burpees πππ but if I'm really honest only about 10 would qualify if I was being judged luckily only my other half was watching in between laughing at me collapsed on the floor!! πππ
Training nosedived over the summer. I couldnβt do long walks/hill walking which I love over the long days and run much. I just couldnβt get the rest days in.
Anyway back to 10k and starting again. Ew burpees...
Not too late to join. I think I just added you to the strava group? If you add a comment to the 'who's who' post in there, people will know who you are π. I think most people in this group were aiming to be HM ready by the end of October, early November. Do you have a target date in mind? or an event even?
Most of the events I have near me are cancelled. My original aim wat Istanbul's 15k. There were others and my local, which should have been something like April I was going to run as a 10. It is now postponed, should be 10 and HM and there is talk about it being in November. Failing that I will follow the plan.
