What a fabulous event. ๐ฅฐ Iโd entered ages ago and assumed it would be called off like most other races this year, so when I got the email saying it was going ahead as a time trial, (although the accompanying HM was ditched), I was thrilled! ๐๐
I couldnโt wait for this morning. My start time was 10:37:30 - runners were setting off every 10 seconds and we werenโt meant to be there too early. Iโm an early bird and consequently I found myself pacing around the house! I did do a yoga session to limber me up. ๐งโโ๏ธ
It was a beautiful day, a full 14 degrees cooler than when I did the race last year, and there was a nice breeze, but it was still remarkably warm, especially on the home leg back up and over the bridge. Itโs not a flat race, thatโs for sure, but my lockdown running mainly on trails, and hardly ever on the flat, really worked. I came in with an official time of 1hr 13m 42s - a good chunk off last yearโs 27 degree time of 1hr 42 ish! Itโs also a 10k PB for me by over 2.5 minutes. ๐
There was an amusing sign saying โitโs a lot of hard work for a free bananaโ, but that banana was very welcome I can tell you. ๐ The bling is beautiful too. ๐ I wore it proudly back to the car, actually feeling quite emotional that this race was able to go ahead. It was stripped right down, but in the current circumstances it was perfect.
Thank you Severn Bridge. I will be back. โค๏ธ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

Thank you Sandie! Itโs such a lovely course and yes, Iโm still chuffed to bits! ๐ฅฐ
I've been waiting for this!!! Woooooow!!
You were on fire ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Congratulations on ... bloomin' everything ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ
What a run and what a PB!! Do not take it off today ๐ฅ you really must celebrate today because you worked so hard and trained so well for today and you sparkled!!๐พ๐ฅ๐ป๐ฅค๐ทI'm so made up for you. It's made my day ๐
Aww thanks so much GTFC! It felt so special knowing that itโs one of only a tiny handful of races going ahead. My result was the cherry on the cake! I knew Iโd beat last yearโs time (how could I not? ๐คฃ), but to get a PB by a good margin was lovely.
Oh yes, Iโll be celebrating alright! ๐ฅ ๐ฅ๐
Ahh thanks GOG, I really did love it and Iโll be back next year - and also to do the PR when it resumes. Itโs my favourite (but Eastville mustnโt know!) ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Haha thanks Linda! Last yearโs time was slooow even for me, but being stubborn and tenacious I soldiered through the heat. This year was gorgeous and much more pleasant to run in. Itโs a fantastic course. โค๏ธ
So pleased for you! You happy runner you! So lovely to read of your joy.
Many congratulations!
Thanks over61, I was walking back to the car thanking every marshal I passed, grinning like you wouldnโt believe! So yes, I am a happy runner! โค๏ธ
Whoop whoop ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ fabulous Munks! Sounds a gorgeous run and in perfect weather too. Thatโs some bling there, I love it. Congrats on the PB and for taking us all with you on an actual real-life race. You shone ๐โ๏ธ
Aww IP, thank you! I really did think of all my VRBs and ARBs whilst running this morning. It would be soo wonderful to be running with you all again! I highly recommend the Severn Bridge if youโre interested next year. ๐ฅฐ
Congratulations on your 1.13.42 time at the Severn Bridge 10K, amazing how cooler weather helps compared to the heat of last summer, so glad that you enjoyed your run today, the bling looks lovely as well. ๐ ๐๐พ You will be looking forward to next year's ๐๐พ. run
Thanks Al! Oh yes, no comparison to last year! I could have done with it being even cooler really, as there is practically no shade and the breeze was pretty gentle. It was fantastic though and I loved it. ๐๐ ๐โโ๏ธ
Iโm not sure how it could with large PRโs Al. There were consistently 500+ at Eastville and it would take all morning. I hope PR finds a workable solution as I do miss it. ๐ฅบ
Awesome run and account CC. Your happiness just bursts out of your post!!
Yay, you won't have to hang up your trainers!
This performance will be reported to the Snail Association Accreditation Committee and your diesel engine will be examined for unauthorised jet powered modifications....but the process is very slow!!!
Hahaha, no my trainers live to run another day BC! That said, the winning time was 32 minutes something! ๐ฑ
My diesel engine was in full force on the short, yet brutal, incline near the finish. So cruel, but my little legs didnโt let me down! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ No jet assistance, I promise, Snail AA Committee! I hope they still accept me as a member! ๐คฃ
Whoop whoop whoop Cheekychipmunks . It official - you have abandoned your fellow snails. Only 1 min behind my flat 10k PB now so you are definitely one to watch.
It must have been so hard waiting for your time slot - all those butterflies ๐ฆ ๐ฆ ๐ฆ
How wonderful though to run in a proper race, and the Severn bridge sounds the perfect place to be able to space people out. I thought of you as I was running my 6k with a northerly breeze and thought how it would be nice and cool for you, and help to blow you home.
Love the medal. The picture says it all. We will be there next year. ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐โโ๏ธ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ๐๐๐
Thanks lovely Dexy5 ! It would be sooooo fantastic to run it with you next year. Itโs such a cool course and the bridge is so majestic. I have a real fondness for it - way more character than its big brash brother, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.
But yes they did a magnificent job. Plenty of hand sanitizer around, a help yourself water station at 6k (I took my own), help yourself bling and banana and lots of friendly faces. ๐ฅฐ
Aww Tasha99 , so sorry yours couldnโt go ahead. I guess because Severn Bridge isnโt an overly large race even in normal times. It attracts mainly people from South Wales and Bristol according to the organisers, which is why they decided to make a go of it.
Do you at least get a virtual option so you can get your bling? ๐
Oh PC, itโs fantastic! I fully recommend it, and I know youโd have a wonderful time! Youโll do it. Keep your eyes peeled for one local to you when life gets a bit more back to normal. Youโll be a convert! ๐ฅฐ
I'm looking forward to it! I did a couple of 5ks *years* ago & really enjoyed them. Funny how I'd forgotten about that until I started running again, 13 years later!
Thanks Sandraj39 , yes theyโre few and far between arenโt they? I was so proud of the Severn Bridge organisers for the amazing job they did today. ๐ฅฐ My PB was a bonus! ๐
I'm so happy that you got to run in a real event and you look so thrilled in your photo. I was tempted myself but we had plans for the day unfortunately and the people we were meeting couldn't do the afternoon so it wasn't meant to be for me, never mind.
The bling is rather nice too and great to have a 2020 medal than isn't virtual ๐๐
Amazing to knock so much time off your PB too, all in all, it sounds like it was a brilliant event ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐๐ฅณ๐๐
Thank you FRB! I was beyond happy with the whole event and the bling was extra special due to it being โrealโ! It weighs a ton too - great quality! ๐ฅฐ
Yes thanks, it was the perfect running day OGR. A friend of mine did the run 2 years ago in howling wind and rain, followed last year by scorching heat (as did I), but he missed out this year. Bet he regrets it now! ๐ฅบ๐
Well done, CC. Thatโs a great achievement. Lovely medal, too. Really envy you taking part in an actual real-life event! Hope the rest of your day was relaxing.
Ooooooh a genuine bit of 2020 bling cheeky! Rare as hens teeth and I bet youโll be wearing it for a few days yet. What a wonderful run you did! Congratulations again on a fabulous pb! ๐๐๐๐
Great stuff Cheeky! Did they seed the start, with people forecasting quick times going first? I'm interested 'cos if I get an early start time for the New Forest 10k I might just get back to the hotel in time for a shower before checkout - or maybe even in time for breakfast!
See you in Southampton for Virtual Vitality 2 .......
Thanks UTS, no seeding - it was a bizarre mix of alphabetical by club name, then alphabetical by surname for non club members, with a few latecomers tagged on the end it seemed! Is NF a time trial too?
It was truly wonderful Jonathan. Everyone was happy and appreciative. It felt like a giant socially distanced Parkrun! My run was fantastic and I couldnโt have hoped for a more positive experience. ๐ฅฐ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Yippee!! ๐๐๐พ Fantastic result and lush bling! ๐ I'm so pleased for you! We drove over the new bridge on Friday after a wonderful holiday in Wales and I wondered if the race was still on - so glad for you and all runners who took part that it was. Hope you are still basking in glory and renewed in energy for autumn running. ๐
