Well, I have said on here that the one element I am missing from my running repertoire is a jaunt in laying snow, and ok, itโs not loads, but Iโve missed my trails for the last 6 weeks as theyโve been far to sloshy, muddy and slippery for the HM prep, having done roads/pavements only.
Happy (๐) that the temperatures would have hardened up the slosh and expecting pavements to be slippery decided to do my last pre event run on the trails.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Only down side was the hardened slosh, was so hard in places it was in tricky ruts, proper ankle turning stuff, so a fair few walking breaks and a right old work out for the legs. A little slower than I would have liked, and as one of my ankles twanged a bit and let me know, ok thatโs enough thanks.....when I thought, ooh warmed up now.....I could do a bit more....Iโm happy with 10k , plus it was -3...... first time Iโve worn so many layers....and kept them on....โ๏ธ๐
My it was lovely to be back on the trails though......
Right now, feeling good for Sundayโs event.....organisers are keeping a close eye on the weather - but doesnโt look like theyโll cancel....
Let the taper terrors begin! ๐ฑ๐คช๐ฑ๐คช๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ณ
Happy safe, warm running all

I am envious, the snow had all blooming well melted by the time I got out for my run yesterday, blooming sea air. Still, I did get an amazing walk in it earlier on!
Thanks roseabi, oh it did feel good, I donโt mind the roads/pavements, but itโs been quite a slog, not having the trail option.....traffic noise, cold weather etc., and yesterday I was stuck in an over heated office, in a โhot deskโ area rammed with people coughing and splutttering.....couldnโt wait to get out......
Hi curly, hope youโre ok. Certainly didnโt want to brave the pavements, although we had to go on a slight detour where the water board have dug a hole on the bridlepath to Caldecote, round an access road, which isnโt normally gritted.....hence a slow pace....felt good though....fabulous to get into the woods again.
I'm doing fine thanks, I remember trying to run along the river last year, every 20 meters or so of road had been repaired with a different surface, so some was slippery some wasn't and I don't have trail shoes...hopefully it'll be clear in a few days.
Well done! Sounds like it was good for both mind and body. I won't even venture near the trails again until we're well into spring. This time of year, the trails are replaced by ski tracks, and the skiiers get really angry if anybody tries to walk or run next to them.
Oh, it was a delight just turning off the road and gazing down the farm track. The ski tracks sound like the shared path/cycle tracks here sometimes........not everyone is good at sharing......๐
Ooh good luck with the 10 miler, I think my one will go ahead, but weโll have some holes to jump over, ๐ my son has just been in, heโs an emergency gas man - the one you get if you report a gas leak, and apparently theyโve dug up the road you go out from the start and come back in on, they usually close one side....to allow traffic to get to one of the shopping centres, canโt see them closing the whole road......so a bit of jumping might be needed if itโs not fixed in time....๐๐ฑ....I donโt think the council are very happy!
You really look as if you are having fun. All the best for Sunday.
Had been wondering if the mud would be better after this spell btu as I sit and watch the lying snow get thicker and thicker may beup to my knees by morning.
Thanks ar, it was a real delight, no time pressures, just a cross country jaunt without the mud! But yes, those ruts were like concrete, no give for your ankles and feet at all, so perhaps a little bit of mud would have been good ๐
Ha ha! Yes, but only a temporary one, they were giving out loads of them at the โwings for Lifeโ run last year.....people were sticking them on their faces like war paint, I had some on my hands, so decided to stick one on my leg.......took a right old scrubbing to get it off! ๐
