Who out there has had a mastectomy? How has it effected your body image?

Hi Joel, I have not had mastectomy but for 25 years I was involved with Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery setting up and running clinics and specialist hospitals, employing surgeons, doctors and nurses. I have seen and discussed results with dozens of men of all ages who have benefitted greatly from this surgery. My wife is a specialist plastics, cosmetic and bariatric nurse who still practises and keeps me up to date with techniques and results from England.

Welcome to the group. We are just starting and I am hoping that over time men will find us and start to support each other in dealing with this disease.

Have you had breast cancer yourself?

Good morning Joel, in one way I am fortunate in only having metastatic PCa & as yet despite the presence of bilateral gynaecomastia have no breast cancer. My partner Shelagh is involved in advising patients pre and nursing post surgery and wondered if she could be helpful to your new structure. I was welcomed to the Advanced PCa site about six weeks ago and have both contributed and been helped greatly in that time. AKA scruffybut1. David.

PS We both have contacts with specialist ca. surgeons and nurses and perhaps could develop a network of people for you?

I had a Mastectomy & have been taking Tamoxifen nearly 5 years now.

I started to get side effects about 3 years ago, Fatigue, out of breath, pain in joints all over.

I took my Tamoxifen at night & just recently in the last 6 months I have been getting very heavy sweats, so I will try taking them in the morning so not wet the bed with my sweating.

Im a 59 year old male who had breast cancer & now nearly 5 years clear.
