I have also been told I have dry macular degeneration. Now I have been to the eye clinic and told my right eye is also affected and I am so concerned as to whether I should be driving. I have been referred to a Retina specialist and wonder Is anybody else in the same boat?

Hello Adaclub,

What was the lens they replaced? Was it a cataract lens or telescopic lens implant?

With regards to driving; if both your eyes are affected with a sight impairing condition, you should report this to the DVLA who will decide if you are still fit to drive. This is a legal requirement.

If your sight is still good in one eye, even if you have macular degeneration in it, you will probably still be legally OK to drive.

Please see our information booklet on driving at the following link;

I hope that this helps.

Best wishes

It was after a cataract removfal some 25 years ago and the lens they implanted at the time made ms very short sighted even the surgeon apologised! However it became necessary to have it replaced last May. Thank you for the information re driving, I have not yet seen the consultant but will certainly ask him if my sight in my other eye is not good enough to drive with.
