I need a bit of help. Am getting a bit despondent about my situation.I developed AMD 6 years ago, left eye dry right eye wet. Treatment injections 28. No injections for 1 year. Recently my left eye developed wet and the right eye which was dry is again wet. Treatment has recommenced.
I feel lost because the sight in my left was very good I was complaisant now reading is difficult writing is also difficult. Everything is so difficult. What help is available I can manage my shopping. I can manage in the home. My problem is reading and writing. Particularly reading instructions and sell by dates.
I hope I don't sound too moany.

Hi tottloh. As your injections have recommenced, the only thing you can do, as far as I am aware, is wait for the injections to hopefully clear the fluid. Hopefully, your left eye will be very good again in time and don't forget that even though wet AMD is more serious than dry, it's also more treatable. Good luck going forward.
Hi tottioh, try not to get despondent, i was having injections in the right eye for a few years, they have now stopped, as have been very successful, and they are just monitoring that eye at present, obviously if anything changes i will have to resume them. The left eye which has dry m.d. has just been diagnosed with glaucoma, for which i have been given drops, so take heart, it is very possible the injections will help you. Best wishes.
HI Tottlon; I'm in the same position with regard to reading and writing. As you're in the UK there is help available. Get your consultant to refer you to the team that supply free aids for people like us. It takes a few months sometimes to get an appointment and not all hospitals have this department. I went a couple of weeks ago and they gave me a desk magnifier, one for my pocket, binocular clip ons for long distance glasses and binocular clip ons for reading glasses, and a pair of oversized sun glasses with side that clip over your long distance glasses. All these extras help me to cope better and are lent on a permanent loan system. I find a 24" monitor best for the computer and you can enlarge the print with Control + to suit. Hope that helps. There is help out there fortunately and if you contact the RNIB and tell them you are 'sight impaired' they will sign you up for their talking books system where you can use them with your computer.
There is a possibility of some improvement in vision during your first three injections. You should ask your consultant to refer you to the low vision clinic for advice on magnifiers and lighting. As MikeG1944 mentions, they will also loan you low vision aids.
You can also contact your local sight loss charity as they may have a resource centre which supplies low vision aids and equipment.

When diagnosed with Wet AMD in my right eye, I was very depressed since I am a birder, artist and pretty independent person. I've had 6 injections in my right eye and 4 in my left. The right is worse so hoping to stop or space out the left eye. My eyesight has improved but my doctors told me I probably won't regain what I had before and will be getting shots the rest of my life. The injections have helped, things still a bit distorted esp on the computer but I've resumed my activities and am grateful there are treatments to help me save my eyesight. Try to hang in there, I know its hard.
