I have had eylea injections for Macular in the right eye for wet for 6 years. It continues to be "still active". The left eye is the dry Macular and is not treated at all yet. . But, just last week after a consultation I was informed that this left eye has a cataract and can be operated on to resolve this problem. My worry is will it be safe with the dry macular in the same eye?

I am not sure I would think so. I have macular oedema in both eyes and I am having my cataracts done fairly soon. I have been going for injections for about 3 or 4 years and at my last appointment I was offered a steroid implant. The consultant told me that the only problem would be it could give me cataracts. I told her I was on steroids already and have cataracts. She had a look and referred me. I went yesterday and should be having the first eye done in a couple of months time.

The consultants know their stuff!

Hi driedflower20. My brother-in-law has had dry AMD in both eyes for several years now and he's had cataracts operated on twice with no ill after-effects. I have wet in my left eye and had the cataract op in April and had no bad after effects, only good ones.

Yes it can be safely operated on. I have dry macular in my right eye and wet in my left. I had cataracts on both eyes and had both removed in March 2021 (3wks apart. All went really well and I now have almost perfect vision in my right eye. I had worn glasses for extremely short sight for many years and now only need them for reading.
