More help

The IT help was only one of the thing mentioned. In the event of me being left on my own, which is sadly a real possibility, someone will visit me for a chat, take me shopping or maybe the garden centre for coffee - I think every 2 weeks. Recently, I have been using our wonderful car service for hospital appointments. Depending on waiting time, they charge between £20 and £30 for a return trip. The drivers are all so helpful and will even take me up in the hospital lift, as I cannot see which button to press!!

A taxi would cost around £120.

Hi Bobbie915. We have a care group where I live. They are really good people. A round trip to a hospital in town (13.5 miles away) cost £14.00. To go to the local hospital is the same. They wait and take you back home.

That sounds great springcross. Are you saying, they will take you to town, even if you don't have a hospital appointment? Our nearest big hospital in Bath, is probably a little over 20 miles. I understood that the service was only for hospital visits. I must ask if they will also take you to your local GP. I haven't been able to drive for several years and wondered, when my husband has to hang up the keys, how we would manage.

Hi Bobbie915. It's for hospitals and any medical facility, including dentists, health centres and opticians. You have to give 14 days notice if possible, but the day we rang them (we wanted it for a couple of days ahead), fortunately, they had a driver available. I don't know how that would work with a health centre appointment though. It also only covers four areas which are the most local to them which is fair enough. The driver was excellent, a really nice person and very pleasant.
