Dear All, have been referred to an ophthalmology Specialist for what I believe is a recurrance oof wet AMD after 5 years of having it dried up. My current insurance won't allow me to see the doctor that I need so I have to cover it out of pocket. Any idea what the damage might be for a visit for eval or Avastin injection? I'm in the US but I can get an idea and interpret the numbers... Many thanks.

I'm in the us too. Why won't they let u see your ophthalmologist? Far as I know you can't just walk in and get injected...you'll very much need a thorough exam.
price will probably run 1200.00 or more. If u have to go out of pocket negotiate with their billing office. AND be sure to pay by card..credit or debit..this expense is tax deductible. At least so far..taxes are determined by congress every season.
paying by card guarantees a copy of your payment if you need proof...your bank statement is good proof and the it's accepts this.
let me know why they won't approve your doctor. I've worked in insurance as well as tax preparation. Maybe I could help.
Hi Hollyg, Went straight to the Optometrist who referred me to an Ophthalmologist. I decided to go to the gentleman that cured this the last time. He is terrific, a compulsive researcher, and amazingly good. I will have to absorb the cost of the eval, but I don't trust anyone else to do the treatment. I'm working with his business dept on cost and payment. I'll let you know what the verdict is Wednesday.
You might try going to Toronto Canada where prices are potentially lower but you would have to inquire at the retinologist office if they do cash payments for services. Their phone number is(905) 573-4848 and the retinologist is Dr Chaudhary you might have to be assertive indicating what you require but in order to get access to a retinologist here in Canada you have to be referred by a medical practitioner resident here in Toronto Canada
