Central Vision - You will have some Peripheral Vision Damage

Hello,

Macular degeneration affects the macula which is a tiny area of the retina, which is approximately the size of a grain of rice. It is responsible for our central vision. Therefore, wet AMD impacts on central vision. If an individual does lose central vision, then, unless there are any other complicating eye conditions, some peripheral vision is retained.

You are welcome to ring us on the Macular Society helpline to discuss this further. We are open 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. The phone number is 0300 3030 111.

Kind regards,

Macular Society Helpline

As far as I know and I am not an expert, it is central vision. I say this, because I believe you can be taught how to use your peripheral vision when your central vision is lost.

I have heard you can do a lot with peripheral vision. it is just as important because it makes you aware of things around u. Central vision is seeing things in detail, but even if u lose most or all of this you can still get around and be independent

Would having new glasses (I already wear glasses) in any way enable more use of the peripheral vision remaining?
