Hello Chris,
I have to confess that the advice for you to take a supplement with Omega-3 is now out of date. The results of a large trial carried out in the USA called the AREDS2 trail (Age Related Eye Disease Study number 2), concluded that Omega-3 is not helpful for eyes. It may be helpful for other health conditions. The results were published in May this year.
More guidance on the subject of supplements and diet when you have dry macular degeneration (MD) can be found in our information booklet, 'Nutrition and your Eyes' at the following link;

There are numerous supplements on the market for people with dry MD; we recommend you speak with your GP and pharmacist for advice. If you are very lucky, you may find your GP can give you a supplement on prescription.
Look for something which is close to the AREDS2 recommended formula; Vitamin C 500mg, Vitamin E 400IU, Copper 2mg, Lutein 10mg, Zeaxanthin 2mg and Zinc 25mg.
The number of tablets you need to take per day will vary with each individual supplement.
If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to call the Macular Society Helpline on 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday).
Best wishes
