Risk of lymphedema from single axillary lymph node biopsy?

Hi all - hope this is an OK place to post this.

I'm a 35M going in for an axillary lymph node biopsy on an enlarged node I've had for ~18 months. I've had three ultrasounds - one inconclusive and the other two not suggestive of anything untoward, but my specialist wants to draw a line under it by doing the biospy as it is quite large/firm and hasn't gone down. No other concerning symptoms (weight loss/night sweats/fatigue).

I was wondering if there is any risk of lymphedema or long term swelling occuring from a biopsy of a single node? I was told they're not removing the node entirely but taking a majority of it for the sample. The reason I am concerned is because I have already been having a lot of water retention/swelling for the a few years in my upper chest/armpits/trunk and sometimes in my ankles too.

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

Kristian

I had a "conglomerate of lymph nodes" removed from the bottom part of my armpit for a biopsy (I think it was about 5X7X2 cm). The surgeon said it was more than one lymph node growing into one lump. Anyway, for me, no problems afterwards.
