Hi Kayw

If your hubby isn't well enough, I think they would delay starting chemo till he was a bit stronger. Check with the cancer nurse specialist and they'll give best advice.

Chemo isn't very pleasant, but there are worse things in life, and if this help his recovery, it's well worth it. It will probably make him very tired and lethargic, but that's to be expected. I finished my chemo 12 years ago this month!

Best wishes, Bill

Thank you, we hope it will help with the symptoms; good to have a positive outcome for you and I will pass on the info (hubby internet shy).

Hi Kayw,

I think it depends what chemo you are on. My husband had 4 rounds of chemo and was fine until the last one whan he felt a little sick. He had no other side effects at all.

Dont be frightened to ask questions from the professionals. Our lung cancer nurse is fantastic and I'm sure yours is as well and believe me you need someone to talk to.

Hope everything goes well for your husband,

Lesley

Hi Kayw,

I am sorry to hear about your husband being unwell, there are different types of chemos available for treating lung cancer, sometimes they combine two drugs to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment .My chemo was cisplatin and vinorelbine,If memory serves we well,Bill (above) shared the same types also.I did worry about having chemo, the usual concerns like, will it make me nauseous?,will my hair fall out ?(didnt mind losing the gray ones),will it leave me fatigued?,well for all my concerns I sailed through all 4 cycles without suffering any side effects, though I did have one bout of constipation, which I could have avoided, had I paid more attention to drinking plenty of fluids during chemo.Best wishes, may your husband go on to make a full recovery following his treatments.

Thank you. Sadly chemo is not to cure but to help symptoms. Hubby had left lung removed in May. After this he was well and took a chance without the chemo - the cancer has come back and involves the heart - there are things we still want to do, a holiday being one - but at the moment he is extremely tired and breathless. I wish he had had the chemo earlier - cancer is so sneaky. Lost my mum less than two years ago to endometrial cancer- nursed her for three years - put my life on hold and now wish I hadn't. My husband helped with my mum too - wish we didn't have to go through all this again - especially when we know where it leads. Sorry, a bit of an outpouring, we can only hope the chemo has some effect.
