Hi SuzyB24
They have made some good advances in the treatment of lung cancer, and I was unsure if it was specific to small cell lung cancer you were asking about.
Research continues to keep improving treatment options and indeed to have a screening programme to detect lung cancer early. Like most cancers, more research is needed to destroy cancer cells and improve outcomes for all.
New therapies such as Immunotherapy and Targeted therapies, for some, have provided an extension of life that was not there before. As you possibly know, everyone reacts and responds differently to any treatment. These new treatments are dependant on specific cell mutations, biomarkers, being present from the biopsy.
I have placed some links below on the biomarkers testing and our small cell lung cancer booklet:

and

I hope you hear from others in the forum about their positive experience and it can feel quite isolating and equally distressing for both for the person with cancer and their loved ones seeking to find out as much as they can to help the person.
There are ongoing clinical trials looking at new or combination treatments in the constant search for improving treatments with both quality and extension of life. If you are interested you can view these from these links: clinicalnet.com/ and

We offer one to one support by telephone or online support groups, including one for the carers, if you are interested in these you can view these and register through this link: roycastle.org/help-and-supp...
Alternatively you can email our support coordinator Ellen Knapp at ellen.knapp@roycastle.org
If you would like to discuss anything you are welcome to contact us on our ask the nurse free phone 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600, or you can email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org
Kind regards

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation
Hello SuzyB24, I am so sorry about your daughter, she's about the same age as my daughter. It's great that you are supporting your daughter through this cancer journey. I have limited stage small cell lung cancer and I am currently doing chemo and radiation simultaneously. I also have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer which was diagnosed last August, but now I have one tumor that wasn't responding to the breast cancer drugs and turned out to be small cell lung cancer. Just got diagnosed with this in July. There are treatments depending on limited stage or extensive stage both though are given chemo and radiation simultaneously. With limited stage surgery may be an option. And then there's immunotherapy too. There's always hope and with new research there's new drugs being trialed for lung cancer. This site is a good place to go and find support as you both are effected by cancer. Prayers for peace and comfort and healing 🙏. Hugs 🤗 Alicia
