hello all,

I was just wondering what are the guidelines for 5 year follow up checks post successful treatment. I find conflicting info. After 2 years, is it 6 monthly to 5 years or annually? Thank you x

I have been told it's every 6 months for the first 2 years then once a year until year 5.

Hope this helps.

I’d go every 6 mos if you can. Recurrence has made me more vigilant.

Hi Mogs2

It is usually 3-6 months for the first 2 years; this can depend on the type of treatment and sometimes the hospital policy. From 2-5 years it is usually annually.

Hope you continue to be well and if you would like to discuss anything you can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Kind regards

It depends on the treatment. I was pushed into annual checks within my first year but then in year 2 had symptoms that they suspected were recurrence so ended up having annual checks every year including year 6 after being hospitalised with nasty chest infections for the latter years. ask your clinical team or nurse what might apply where you were treated but they should cover you for 5 years.

Thanks for confirming everyone. Had results, latest CT shows NED😀. I’m 2 years post treatment now, I’d been having 3 monthly checks, so yes hospital confirmed annual CT going forward. My CNS called yesterday and said she’d give me a call in 6 months time, just to see how I’m doing. It is a worry though, going from 3 monthly to annual. Lucky to have such a supportive team and it helps to talk here too.

I went every 6 months, even after 5 years. Unfortunately, I had a recurrence of OVCA in Year 6, but It was caught early due to my follow-ups
