Just read an article about an 80 year old lady who had stage 4 lung cancer and took liquid CBD oil daily, and refused all treatment. The tumour disappeared. Is this made up, surely the experts would have found that CBD is a cure. It's like diet, there's no diet that can cure cancer.

Hello Tike3
There is a place for alternative therapies and they can work well alongside conventional medicine, although claims that certain therapies can cure cancer are not backed up by medical evidence nor have they undergone clinical trials to certify the results that are claimed. Before starting any additional medication be it a complimentary therapy or traditional medicine always discuss with the medical team responsible for your care first to make them aware of any additional medication you are taking.
Cancer research has very good information on complementary therapies and CBD oil, I have added the link to both below

Thank you so much for your reply, I was just curious, I wouldn't really think about it. Fingers crossed my chemotherapy is working.
Kind regards
I think I read about that on the MedScape News in the USA. It was a cancer patient in the UK so I wondered where she got the THC oil from. It was not CBD oil.
EDIT: Found the article.
The source of the CBD oil was outside the United Kingdom. The main active ingredients, according to her supplier, were ▲9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), at 19.5%, CBD, at 20.05%, and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, at 23.8%.
Hi Pal
Thanks for your reply, what's THC? Different than CBD? I'll carry on with chemo, and perhaps if all else fails in the future I might consider it!
I assume the article is the one by Roxanne Nelson, which a retired GP friend pointed me at. The problem is that a single case isn't exactly a good statistical base. Also, it doesn't mention the dosage, just 'two or three times a day' which isn't much help to anyone who wants to try it out.
You are correct, more detailed research needs to be conducted with a large number of people to demonstrate any benefits.

Bob Marley died from cancer and he was a rastaferian. My friend died from skin cancer and he smoked cannabis every day.
Apart from pain relief and helps with appetite I don't think it has any other benefits.
My brother (at the age of 44) was diagnosed with stage 4 SCLC (metasized to liver & spine) in October 2019 and was told he had 3 months to live and 18 months with treatment. He has had no NHS treatment since January 2020 and is cancer has been no longer been active since. The doctors are baffled. However since is diagnosis he’s also been taking CBD oil and is utterly convinced this is why he is alive today!
Hi Cheryl
So pleased for your brother, it's very encouraging. I have Stage 4 NSCLC being treated with chemotherapy.
Something new coming along all the time and trials.
I wish you both well.
Hi Cheryl,
Do you know which CBD oil your brother has been using? I’ve been looking into it as an alternative therapy, as I may be about to start a treatment break (within the NHS)… and would like to be doing something during this time. But I don’t really know where to start, as most of what I find is US-based.
Thanks,
Gini
Many of these posts are often unregulated, single case studies and don't always evidence the stage of the cancer. Several celebrities opted out of conventional anticancer treatment - including Caron Keating and Steve Jobs - to pursue 'alternative' paths but it didn't improve their situations. There have been a number of studies into several complementary therapies but they are 'as well as ' not 'instead of' conventional therapies.
I spoke to a Lord in the House of Commons some years ago who told me his daughter had stage iv lung cancer and when I said I was sorry, he said 'oh it's ok, she's cured it with her diet'. when I asked whether she'd had chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, the treatments at the time, he said 'yes but it's the diet that's made the difference'.. Many lung cancer patients whose treatment has ended (especially with those limited to 2 years) haven't always had the explanation that the body itself will regulate its system to continue acting to the treatments that 'tweaked' their repair mechanisms for many years so such improvements after treatments end, aren't usually a case of baffling doctors but following the path that the evidence showed when the treatments were authorised for use in different countries. Regarding diets, I was told there was 'little evidence' about changing diet when I was diagnosed 11 years ago but I read the book 'anticancer - a new way of life' by Dr Servan Schreiber who advocates changing our lives to one of better balance - including work/life, sleep, eating whole foods, regularly, reducing sugar and refined carbohydrates, ensuring 7-8 portions of fruit and veg, drinking water (staying hydrated), keeping a healthy body weight, only moderate intake of alcohol, stop smoking, taking regular exercise, etc etc to improve our overall response to treatments and reduce risks of recurrence....
Some of the issues in that book have since been evidenced to make some sort of difference to recovery but that's quite different from claiming to 'cure cancer'.
