Hi Red58 hope you are doing okay re your question I haven't and not heard of this one before. Check with your nurse unless someone comes up with an answer on here x
Hello Red58,
Chemotherapy can affect your teeth and other parts of your mouth, such as your gums, or saliva glands, side effects can include,
Painful teeth or gums
Difficulty swallowing, also known as dysphagia
Mouth sores
Trismus, also known as lockjaw
Changes in taste
Before starting on chemotherapy it is always advised to have a full dental check up and any outstanding cavities filled and any existing dental infections treated.
This link below is to cancer research and gives some very good advice on common oral side effects and how to treat them.

Hi there.
Definitely worth checking with the nurses on anything to do with teeth. I have sailed through all treatments but have been tripped -up by my teeth of all things. I never thought they’d be a villain in the piece!
I’m on Denosumab, had a tooth extracted last year which has resulted in something called osteonecrosis of the jaw - which will apparently take a year’s run of antibiotics to get rid of. This is a side effect of Denosumab - which I’ve annoyingly had to stop taking until my jaw is better. The osteonecrosis doesn’t bother me but stopping Denosumab does.
So from my experience - although mine is specifically Denosumab related - do mention it. And try not to have any major dental work done.
Hope it gets sorted.
Hello I hope you’re coping well with your treatment. I did get a lot of jaw pain/ache whilst on chemo, it soon passed though. I was on Carboplatin and Vinorelbline. Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Red58
Our dentist recommended Corsodyl mouth wash - and it worked a treat! Although my husband often felt like an ulcer was on its way, nothing ever developed.
Hope it does the same for you xx
