Hi everyone.

Has anyone done Personalized vaccines for cancer immunotherapy?

The doctor suggested to my dad to try it next.

I see that it a a very new experiment and wantes to find out what are the results of it and if there are any risks. Thanks.

Ina

Dear Ina

Welcome to the forum. If this was suggested to your Dad in regards to a clinical trial, then a patient information leaflet should be provided for your Dad to read about this and what would be involved.

I have placed a link below on an open research study in to a cancer vaccine for non small cell lung cancer, this provides information on what the trial is, who would be suitable and the location of the trial:

cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

Perhaps discuss with the lung cancer nurse specialist who may have this information or the contact person for this.

This link is from cancer research UK about the trials being conducted for a cancer vaccine:

cancerresearchuk.org/fundin...

This link explains a little about the types of vaccines and the trials being conducted:

lungcanceralliance.org/trea...

CIMAvax-EGF is a cancer vaccine being used in Cuba, but not licensed for use in Europe or USA -this link provides a statement on the early trials with CIMAvax-EGF:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/299...

They advise more clinical trials need to be done on this.

However it depends on your Dads type of cancer and cell mutation, there may be new trials/vaccines available. As these are early trials it may be difficult to get concise data / reports on this.

If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free ask the nurse helpline on 0800 358 7200

All the very best
