Cough after lung cancer surger?
Glad to read that you’re feeling pretty good. I didn’t have surgery but someone who has will be checking in and you’ll get a better answer. My dr gave me an Rx for Tessalon Perls to help with my cough. The irritation from coughing makes the cough worse so try soothing it with honey in a hot beverage.
I also had a terrible cough and sore ribs from coughing. Called my thoracic surgeon's office. They prescribed Tessalon Perles (sp?) that saved my life. The nurse described them as 'lidocaine for the lungs'. Ask if you can try that med. It calms the coughing reflex. Miracle drug - I could finally sleep at night and eventually the cough dissipated entirely. (LOL just read reply below. We agree!)
I assume that your surgery is recent. Your lungs are healing from major trauma and are more sensitive to any allergens or pollutants than before. Also, as a result of healing, they produce mucous. Coughing is usual. In my case I considered it an annoying necessity to keep anything from accumulating in my lungs. That sensitivity has persisted for me and I continue to cough, but not nearly as much as right after surgery 3 years ago. Before planning any outdoor adventures I check airnow.gov to see what the air quality is in this area. That has been most helpful in managing those lung symptoms and planning activities.
I hope this helps. It does get better with time and we learn to manage.
