REGARDING MY SISTER’S STG 4 LUNG CANCER

Hello group,

Would anyone here know if it is safe to move around when you have a blood clot in your leg and another one in the lung? Just getting different answers from people that have actually graduated from medical school. Can’t trust MDs any more I guess, or I’m being a bit too demanding? It might have to do with my sister being 85 years old?

Thanks so much......

Inactivity contributes to the formation of blood clots and is a major factor in deep vein thrombosis. I’m not a med doctor or student but I think that would indicate some movement is good.

When I was 32 years old I had deep vein thrombosis and was hospitalized for 10 days. I was not allowed out of the bed and was given Heprin shots in my stomach every day. That was 36 years ago.

Two years ago my brother-in-law had several blood clots following surgery. He was in ICU for quite a while and had other complications. His other complications were taken care of and he improved greatly. When he was released, he was put on blood thinners and told he still had several blood clots but With no restrictions. He also was told that they no longer required bed rest for blood clots as they did not feel that helped at all.

Find a doctor you trust and follow his recommendations. I pray your sister does well and enjoys life as much as she did before.

God bless you all.

The treatment of blood clots has changed dramatically over the years. I would check with the doctor who is treating your sister for the blood clots about how much activity is recommended. She most likely is on blood thinners, so any injury will cause more bleeding than normal.

I hope you get your answer soon and your sister's condition improves.

Hi, I had a clot in my leg and 11 in my lungs 18 months ago, i was in hospital for ten days and had scans to make sure the clots had not gone to my heart or brain. I was allowed walk around any time i wanted also was allowed go to the coffee shop any time i liked. i was given what is called the bee sting injection in my stomach 3 times a day also i was on blood thinners and long stocking which i had to wear for twelve months. i am 78 years old and i am fine but if i want to fly away on holidays i have to take blood thinners for 2 weeks before i go stay on them while i am away and continue taking them for another 2 weeks when i get home. i do hope this helps.

Thank you Margaret for sharing! My sis is on blood thinners now thru an IV. I guess things have really changed in the last 15 years as to being able to move around with a clot depending on your doctor’s orders, of course.

May god bless you always!

Thank you all for all your great comments m! It gives me so much relief and insight in our process - my sis is 85 and getting there in age so it is not that easy to deal with; however our dad lived to 99 and we’re trying to bear the odds!! ❤️👍
