Has anyone ever come across a full length leg compression garment that stops at the ankle or just above?

I have seen 'compression pants' used by athletes, but would not recommend them for anyone with lymphoedema - if you are considering in investing in some, please talk to your lymphoedema therapist/nurse first.

it is NOT a good thing for us with Lymphoedema to have the compression stockings to finish at the ankles or just above...because the strongest compression is generally at the ankle ..therefore it would act like a tourniquet and stop or restrict the blood flow...and would worsen our condition

hi river

i hope you don't mind, i was having mld this morning & mentioned your karate & wanting stockings that stop at the ankle - i just thought i might pick up a tip or 2

i did, but you're not going to like it, sorry

she said that people with leg lymphoedema almost always have problems with lymph in the foot / feet as well, so you'd get that swelling i was describing i get in my hands on your other thread

obviously, she couldn't comment on your exact circumstances & you could say anything's worth a try - personally, i still think you could relax & relish the naughtiness of it - you're not doing karate to look after your lymph, you're doing it to have a blast - & put the stockings back on straight afterwards

but i can't advocate that, obviously, cos you & i both know it's the wrong advice!

Much appreciated Norberte, I've posted in full on the other thread.

Hi RIver,

Have you tried open toe compression stockings ?

mediuk.co.uk/drug-tariff/lo...

I do yoga and i know what you mean about being better and more comfortable barefooted.

For me these are a happy medium between going barefooted and getting some compression in whilst exercising.

Hi Chetanna,

Yes the open toe Medi stockings are the ones I use normally but I still find that they don't allow for any grip on the floor as the majority of the foot is covered.

I emailed Medi and they said they could make a custom stocking that stops at the ankle with a stirrup strap that fits over the foot to keep the stocking in place....

I am going to carry on without compression for the time being but may look into these custom garments further if I notice any adverse effects.

Thanks.
