Has anyone gotten dizzy and light headed when coughing, even though you have good oxygen levels?

I almost collapsed tonight when going into another room. I held in to the door frame so I did not go down. My legs were really wobbly, it was quite scarry.

Poor you. It’s possible to hyperventilate with coughing and that can make you dizzy. Could that be the reason? Did your fingers tingle?

I did not feel tingling in my fingers. Not sure about hyperventilating being problem but I will ask my polmonologist tomorrow on our phone call visit.

Thank you for your response.

I get dizzy and lightheaded from asthma and coughing but could be good to see a GP and make sure nothing else is going on. Sometimes low iron and things like that can make you underlyingly weak so that when you have something like a coughing spell you get dizzy out of nowhere.

I have just had a good blood work up last week when I went to the ER. Nothing showed up. I have lung nodules, scarring in lower left lobe and increased air trappings that showed in my cat scan on Thursday, they were higher in this scan. I am not expelling as much air as I am bringing in which might be the issue.

I have a tele visit with my Dr tomorrow. If he sheds any light on it I will post it.

Thank you for your response.

Getting light headed/dizzy can be a side effect of the inhalers. I definitely experience it.

Hi, I am new here. I was experiencing dizziness and lightheaded symptoms on a regular basis. Mine would happen behind the the wheel of a vehicle. I had to take a leave of absence from work. My Dr added yet another inhaler and it seams to be helping.

What inhalers are you on?

I am on:

Combivent for rescue

Spiriva for maintenance

Advair HFA for maintenance

Qvar for maintenance

Qvar is my most recent and it really seams to help. I’m on 80mg 2 puffs 2x a day. It is difficult to use with an spacer, but it can be done.

If you notice it’s 4 inhalers in 2 classes, I mention that because insurance prefers the formulary drugs. My doctor had to get Qvar approved, otherwise it’s $360 per month.

I hope that helps!

Not uncommon. The increased pressure in your chest with the coughing can have these effects. It is generally just physiology but this can also be a sign of low blood pressure. It is recommended to see Doctor for proper Diagnosis. Also Try not to be driving of standing when those terrible coughs come on.
