All I feel is sad for 'little' me!

Hi all, just been diagnosed with Lipoedema after my daughter said 'Mum, did you know there is a condition where you have fat legs? I think you have it' (her friend's Mum has it too). I have always had big legs, no ankles, bingo wings and a spare tyre (not sure that is even part of it but my Mum has one too!) even when I weighed just 8 stone. My GP referred me to the clinic and the nurse was lovely. I am going to try compression stockings when the weather gets cooler as I am lucky and although I bruise very easily don't have too much pain. I did find it hard to answer the pain and heaviness questions that the nurse asked though as I have been like it since I was twelve years old so how do I know I feel different from anyone else? My legs feel heavy and I get tired after a long walk but I thought everyone felt like that! lol My main feeling now is sadness for 'little' me who didn't know that this was a thing and went through teenage years wondering why I didn't have nice legs like all my friends and for the me who put on weight when I was down not knowing that it would 'stick'. I am glad I know now but wish I had known before, so important for people to be educated. Anyway, not a question as such but just glad to be able to read other people's experiences and know I'm not alone.

Hi Saz. Welcome. It's ok to feel sad - I also feel it's unfair that we've got these legs. I looked at my legs the other night (sigh), and said - well, they still get me from A to B (I can walk). Yes, we have these legs, and they're not the lovely slim legs that we/I envy, but they work. Accept your legs. And live the best life you can. I'm on a get-healthy mission at the moment (trying to lose some pounds as my tyre has gotten bigger!). Taking it one day at a time - and working on being positive. Keep moving, smiling, laughing and loving - yourself. Hugs! :)

Thank you! Ironically my husband is an amputee with only one leg so you can imagine what he thinks! You are right we need to be thankful for what we do have!
