Improvements to Search!

We're pleased to announce the technology behind search has been upgraded and released with a new design.

If you haven't tried it, visit healthunlocked.com/search and give it a go!!

Some of the changes include highlighting the search term in the post snippet, displaying "search tips" when no results are retrieved, and the option to give us feedback by clicking "New! Give feedback" right under the search box.

What is coming next? Later this week, you will see a new tab on your community main navigation bar. The "Search" tab will allow you to search for content without leaving your community.

Over the next month, in the site-wide search, we're looking to introduce the option to find specific communities, rather than just posts, helping to identify all relevant communities to members. This new option will replace the current "Find" page to ensure all users can find what they're looking for.

We hope this and any future updates will help users navigate the platform more efficiently, identify more relevant content, and put a spotlight on the community members can benefit from.

Can you search your own posts only, as sometimes I've written a post about for instance The differences between Polymyalgia & Fibromyalgia and want to link to other posts when replying but do not want it pinned. Mostly the important ones can be found by any member by searching FAQ. :)

This is something that would be extremely helpful for both Admin and members. As well as the ability to search our own messages.

Hi Mdaisy ,

Thanks for the feedback!

We agree that searching your own posts would be really useful and it's something we certainly want to look into. We have a rough idea of how it could be implemented that will need some further thought but watch this space! :D

It looks promising.

First two questions/requests:

You can order by Newest; why not by Oldest? (Better still, a date range.)

You can enter two terms - but they are combined using OR. Example, I know a post exists that has London AND Derry in it. But you get every post with London OR Derry - hundreds even within Thyroid UK.

(Luckily, the actual post ALSO has Londonderry in it, which made it easy enough to find. But only because I know the post well.

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu... )

There are many circumstances in which AND is much wanted as you know that one of the terms is common but nonetheless would serve to refine the results.

Great feedback helvella !

You'll be pleased to hear, the work has already begun to include a date range filter. This will be implemented in a future release.

We really like the idea of including 'AND' or 'OR' to filter results more specifically, we'll share this with the team and keep you updated!

I just tried to search for my own name - pretty unlikely to crop up in other circumstances within HealthUnlocked so seemed a reasonable test. I found 38 hits. As here:

healthunlocked.com/search/p...

But there are posts which include helvella (as a word, not as a tag or link) which are not found, such as this one, in a response by DawnD:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Found that by using Google!

Incompleteness is a major sin.

Funmily enough - I used your name to test it too! LOL!

In this phase of the improvements, the search results will only include posts. This is why the reply from DawnD is not appearing in the results.

This version of search is by no means the finished product, we are rolling out the improvements in stages so they can be released and used as soon as possible after they've been built. We will continue sharing updates here so you can try them out!

Thanks for replying.

I had not appreciated that only the original posts are included.

Laura I would like to get to my posts from 2016. To start out that is when I joined. At that time I went by the name Jo Taylor and had some really good posts helped alot of new people. I would like to keep them. I was told by Maddie HU that my posts back than and sense. Under the name susiejo1948. I changed name to the above. Because of that they say o started 7-2017. I was told after I'm gone it will be my legacy. I am a 6year lung cancer survivor and advocate. I beat the cancer but not the emphysema I'm hoping not for a long while. I've helped a lot of people on hear and new ones. I will be here for as long as I can. I give them hope. And not give up. Keep fighting. There are so many new treatments out there that are helping stage 4 live longer and hopefully there will be a cure soon. Anyway I was told my posts and the replys back would be here when I'm gone. For others to read and have hope. That is my legacy I really like to help the others on here and new ones I give. Them so much hope and to not be afraid of there diagnoses. I honestly believe this is what I'm meant to do help others going thru the lung cancer. Thanks for taking the time to read.susiejo1948.
