Hello everyone  👋

We wanted to let you know about a recent tech upgrade to writing a post. Our team are continuously working towards creating a site that is user friendly. We hope that you like the update, which is aimed to increase engagement by making it easier to write a post, through a more straightforward design and improved loading performance, accessibility, readability, and comprehension.

Below you will find the main updates we have made:

(1) Question tab:

We previously had two options when writing a post, “Question” and “Post”. We have understood that this has caused some confusion amongst some of our members as it was not clear about the difference between the two options. To simplify the page, we removed the "Question" tab as it was not used much.

(2) Body Toolbar:

Many members have raised the pain point of using keyboard shortcuts to format the body of their posts. We have now incorporated a toolbar to allow you to do this directly within the post. We have added the same formatting as the replies (i.e., Bold, Italic and Underline). We also inserted the mention button and moved the image button to the toolbar.

(3) Multiple mentions:

Where previously you could only mention one other member in your posts, we have now made it possible for you to mention multiple members in the same post.

(4) Help

We added information modal for tags to highlight their value and use.

We hope that you enjoy the improvements to the write a post page, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for more information via support@healthunlocked.com

Robert, I have written post on PMRGCAUk forum page containing this info, as not sure many members there are aware of this HU Blog page.

Hope that’s okay with you.

Certainly more streamlined than previous version, thanks.

Hello DorsetLady,

Yes, of course. We encourage all posts written in this community to be shared with as many members as possible.

They can also follow the community directly as more communications will come! 👍

I think many of them have enough to think about with their various ailments - and it’s a very busy forum anyway. Some are aware of this one, some aren’t which is why I highlighted your post

Hello,

to whom it may concern. Would it be possible to have my petition put on 'all communities', instead of 'each community'? another poster suggested this on my post: Blueskysixtysix. I think it is a great idea, so my petition can reach the number it needs for the government to listen and act on my petition for a adults disability commissioner for England.

I look forward to hearing from you soon

Kind regards

Blueskysixtysix

hi

The originator of this post RobertHU needs to address this - I’m not HU employee -just a user.

Hopefully he will respond to you….

Well I'm glad to see you using a more intuitive approach. Every little bit helps. You all need to read and learn a little bit more about the field of "quality improvement."

RobertHU profile image
RobertHUHealthUnlocked in reply toMarionP

Hello MarionP ,

Our tight-knit team is dedicated to continuously learning from our partners, administrators, moderators and members about the site's features and functionality and strives to improve and upgrade these accordingly.

To help us improve, would you mind reaching out to us directly at support@healthunlocked.com so we can go into more detail about the issues you raise with us?

MarionP profile image
MarionP in reply toRobertHU

You don't work for free, do you? What's it worth?

BlessedLady profile image
BlessedLady in reply toMarionP

Administrators and Moderators volunteer their time and knowledge.

MarionP profile image
MarionP in reply toBlessedLady

Then they won't be going into quality improvement as a website discipline. Still, good to know, it explains a few things.

BlessedLady profile image
BlessedLady in reply toMarionP

Not necessarily. I am an Administrator at a website. The owner of that website has invested their own money in quality improvements. Money from ads also helps pay for the running of the site and improvements

MarionP profile image
MarionP in reply toBlessedLady

So then member activity is of business interest to somebody, the advertisers? What do they receive in return? See there must be a corporate entity with its particular goals and mission somewhere. Quality activity has to be addressed toward a particular goal and operating philosophy, and it can't be pursued until it is stated and clear. That's what I was driving for.

Anyway, it appears then that Robert should be referred to you rather than to me for the help he asked me for. I'm sure he will realize that although he emailed me with a question, he actually meant to contact you, or else understands that you are his designated spokesperson...it's important that I understand correctly that he automatically needs help or insertion by others to speak for him...thankfully you perceived it and thus jumped in.

First lesson in quality improvement: learn to respect boundaries in order to not alienate and drive people away, it's not good for getting the eyeballs and credibility that a website needs. Good thing you thought to generously provide the opportunity.

So in future shall I address all correspondence from Robert to me and from me to him over to you then, for proper handling? I don't mind assuming you answer for him, since as he put it, you are a tight knit group.

I am not the Administrator at this site

If you go to the bottom of the page and follow the link to 'about us' you land on the explanation that a company called CorEvitas is behind all of the Health Unlocked communities and you can follow a link to corevitas.com/. Their website indicates that they are a data collection company supporting the bio pharmaceutical industry.

Thanks Robert to making the issue clear. In the past, at least in my case, it was disincentive to contribute because apparently I have not made the correct choice although I thought I had not. Let's see what happens from now.

The only comment I have with the changes, is to do with the choice between an Open Post and a Community only Post. I did a double take, when there was no choice at the bottom, all would be Open, nearly deleted my complete Post, then noticed that there was an sort of arrow, so clicked on this and discovered I could do Community only. I wonder if it might not be preferable to make the default Community Only, I do feel this is the safer option. Just a thought.

BridgeGirl profile image
BridgeGirl in reply toSORRELHIPPO

I agree, I would prefer Community only as default

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toSORRELHIPPO

In the past I asked about this, which was preferable, and the answer given was that HU prefers open because people searching for information about their condition can find posts in a browser search.

You can only read the whole post or contribute if you are a member of the given community.

Plus it IS social media so certain sensitive information should only be shared via private message aka chat! Or there is the option to limit the post to community only.

I make the choice to share openly unless it is an issue which I know is only of interest to people already in the community, people who already know me. A lot of what we share in our posts is indeed general information which can help people new to their condition looking for a support group. I think HU strikes a good balance in allowing people ways of remaining very private (e.g. using a pseudonym and providing private message function and a way to make an otherwise "open" post (although still subject to restrictions as noted above) less accessible to anyone on the internet.

I've just tried to create a post n it's confusing the 💩outta me!! Please don't assume we're all cyber savvy 😤I've given up right now n it's an important post to me 😔I can't even type out what I wanna say..let alone add a pic!! 🤷

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toKrazykat26

Are you having problems finding where to write the post? Or some other issue?

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply toHeronNS

I can get onto write a post but I'm having probs trying to type..there's no spell check n when I try to go back to make a correction the bar just stays at the end of what I'm writing 🤷

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toKrazykat26

I know some people find they have more problems when using a phone rather than a computer. I think the options get hidden or something. I don't use a phone!

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply toHeronNS

I'm on a phone 😹

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toKrazykat26

Specific issues related to smartphones should be reported to HU as they can't fix something specific like that unless they know, and there are so many different phones out there now. IF you are able to find the menu which on my laptop is at top right hand corner labelled "MORE" you will find a help option there. It might have decided to locate itself somewhere else on your phone screen! Good Luck 🍀

Thank you so much for that🤗You've calmed me down 😁💜🌈😽😽xx

Quote from the Help page

To leave a community:

1. Go to the home page of the community you want to unfollow. Hover over the tick button located next to " write" until the tick button turns to " leave"

2. A message will pop up asking if you want to unfollow the community, click " Leave Community"

Thank you so much. You do a great job. Wish someone would teach MacMillan what User Friendly means. I am not clever, and while they have a wealth of info, their communication areas defeat me…

Lauren 519 I have not had my weekly Sunday report from you since you put the changes into place. Last one was 17th July. Can you look into this for me please?

Wales99 profile image
Wales99

weirdly on a private chat I no longer have a “reply” button, only report or block? I have to start a new chat each time. Is this due to the update?

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toWales99

Well, thank you for mentioning that. Just checked and same thing for me. That must be a glitch. Maybe some people have wanted to be able to start a new conversation with the same person, which this would enable, but that should be an option, not the default. :D

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply toHeronNS

Glad it’s not just me! Yes I nearly accidentally blocked my friend instead of replying 😂. Luckily I realised in time!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toWales99

I just tried with a different browser, and it is the same issue with both Chrome and Firefox, so apparently not a browser problem. Have they hidden the reply button somewhere?

Wales99 profile image
Wales99 in reply toHeronNS

ooh hadn’t thought of that! Maybe? I didn’t investigate that closely.

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLady in reply toHeronNS

Mine seems okay …

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toDorsetLady

Hmm, maybe it's another of those stupid things which don't work with certain browsers. I'll check with another browser (usually use Chrome, and it's a pain having to log into other browsers when Chrome remembers everything. :D

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS

DorsetLady , Wales99 Actually, it seems like I now automatically have a box where I can start to type a reply. Did I miss it earlier? Or has it magically reappeared, a temporary glitch?

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLady in reply toHeronNS

Might have been a glitch - mine has always had what you describe…

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply toDorsetLady

It does look different to me. I really didn't see a way to reply when I first checked - had to look, and it is possible there was no box there when I looked the first time. I'm sure it was clearer in format before, even if we didn't actually have to click a reply button, which I don't remember. Don't use chat much but I believe today I would have jumped to the same conclusion as Wales99 had I wanted to chat to someone I'd chatted with before.

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLady in reply toHeronNS

Sorry ….might have misled you, yes it has changed over the last few weeks…when I said mine was as you described, I meant since the changes…..

.. and I have been able to pick up previous chats will same person without an issue.

The main difference seems to be if you have a Chat with more than one person, you cannot see who else is involved unless you tap the “more” button [top right of page]
