Will Kidney function improve after gemzar/cisplatin

I hovered at creatinine of 1.1 to 1.3 during treatment but 4 weeks after treatment it is now 1.7 with egfr of 30. I am actually not very happy with my oncologist as he has not bothered to call me about the results. I saw them on the computer. Also,, went for a cystoscope at which time they did a urinalysis and I had Protein in my urine along with a trace of blood and leukocytes. The urologist did not mention anything about these results. I understand the protein in the urine is a sign of kidney damage. I only have 1 kidney. The cancer was in my left kidney which they removed. I also had nausea still at week 6 and decided to try discontinuing my HCTZ which resolved the nausea. I think the kidney function added to my nausea possibly even during treatment. I then met with my PCP and asked him if there is anything else I can do to help my kidneys. He took me off metformin and put me on glipzide. Oh yea, and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 17 years ago. Is there a possibility that these issues may resolve after time? With my diabetes and only 1 kidney I am very concerned about this drop in my kidney function.

I see a nephrologist for my kidney function. It always reassured me someone is watching my lone kidney.

I have both kidneys affected, I had partial nephrectomies and I still have tumors. The recommendation they made to take care of my kidney function is to take care of my weight, reduce the consumption of protein, dairy and fat and not use anti inflammatory. There are countless foods that harm the kidney. Maybe you should consult with a nutritionist who knows how to manage your diabetes and kidney. Many times doctors fail to inform us of things we should know. I am from Argentina and I have a friend from Spain who also has kidney cancer and he was never told that he had to take care of his kidney. I hope my English has been understandable. Have luck on your way. Blessings
