Good afternoon Millielottie, - My everyday "normal" count is steady @ 7K. Been like that for 30+ years. Every once in awhile I will get blood clots in my mouth that ball up and simply

is annoying. No issues brushing my teeth or going to the dentist. In Fact I had a tooth pulled

and the dentist found no problems. I also stopped going to Hematologists years ago. They

can't tell me what causes ITP or how to treat it.

Thanks for replying. I have to get a tooth removed which I now have to go to hospital to have done as my haematologist says count is too unstable. There are problems with they think the bone density and guns which I never had before I got Itp. I will see what my consultant says this week.

Hi Millie Lottie! With me, the excessive gum bleeding was the main sign of something being wrong and led to my diagnosis of itp. Even all these years later it is still the main warning sign to me that my count is on the way down and to get a full blood test done. It's horrible because I çan always taste blood in my mouth and when I brush my teeth the washbasin looks to like a murder scene! Surprisingly, at 57 years old, I still have all my own teeth despite the excessive bleeding.

I don't have any bleeding gums but on an xray taken at dentist showed issue with bone and gums but never had any problems like this before I got ITP so just wondered if anyone else had suffered these problems.

Hi Millie lottieI received my ITP diagnosis when my platelets bottomed out at 3. For about 2 years prior to this at my six monthly dental check ups, I complained that I had slight bleeding when brushing my teeth and there was blood on the flesh of an apple when I ate one. I was told I didn't have gum disease so should have been advised to go to my doctor .... Four years on from ITP diagnosis, MMF is helping to restore my platelet count to more normal levels, but like crazydoglady, blood when brushing teeth for me, this too is a warning sign that blood counts are not good, but I only get slight bleeding. You learn to read the signs in your body, as each of our bodies copes with /reacts differently to ITP.
