Is there a normal as you put it. I am still taking a low,5mg, dose of prednisolone as I have been for about 10 years or more. The worst side effects were when I was on 50mg per day, awful weight gain and really bad headaches. After a while it seemed that the more pred I took, the better my platelet count, drop dose, drop platelet count.

I do have memory problems, short term is worse, but if you use a diary for all appointments and important dates you will be fine, the hardest part in living with itp is changing the way you do things, just adapt as much as you can. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to reverse the condition or is it a permanent damage?

No, I don't believe so. Had this condition a long time and having treatment that didn't exist when I first got the ITP diagnosis

Hi, I have been taking prednisolon for 15 years, Different doses. If I need higher platelet level I take more. Yes, it gives quite bad side efects connected with bones, higher sugar level, higher blood pressure, worse memory and different feelings in head and all body. No many variants of treatment offered in my country. But I still work and try to live norml life. I cannot run but I can walk fast. :)'

Trust on GOD, HE is in control of everything. Peace, joy - everything from HIM.

GOD bless everybody.

Hi I suffer from memory loss.

At the beginning it was really bad where i couldnt remember how to write and use a pen or pencil. I used to be an enthusiastic knitter and I couldnt remember how to knit. It was totally debilitating. I would speak to someone on the phone and when i put the receiver down i could not remember who i had just spoken to and what was said. This was 10 years ago.

Things are a lot better now but I still suffer from memory loss. I can write, i can remember a phone conversation for about a week, then it disappears. I can knit but i cant follow a knitting pattern, my brain wont allow me. When I have detailed converstions with people I have to write notes throughout, but then i forget where i have saved the notes. I have files of things but forget where i have put the files. It is very very frustrating. The only thing i hold on to is that it does get better bit by bit.

I cant see that my memory will ever be as good as it was when I used to be able hold so much in my head.

I run my own business and find it most annoying.

Take care.

Nicky

Prednisone did not reduce my memory. I did say things that would be better off not said. I had my spleen removed and that resulted in my platelets now staying at 35,000. I can live with that level. I do bruse easily. I no longer take prednisone.

I,too, have been having memory loss but assumed it was part of aging. I am also not computing well. Not noticeable to friends, l think, although I’m forgetting words and I’ve always loved words, the bigger the better (starting with ‘St John’s Christmas’s’ supercilious’ in grade 6). I’m on 20 mg of dexamethasone (4x stronger than prednisone) every 10 to 14 days. Last platelet count was 33.
