Has anyone had problems with the ALT ennzyme level in their liver as a result of ITP treatment?

A normal level should be between 5 IU/L and 60 IU/L and my count went up to 1228 IU/L.

Hi Nicky. You certainly have been in the wars with your various problems, evidenced by your questions. Most of these I think can only be answered by a consultant particularly with regard to the drugs and side effects.

In relation to the ALT ennzyme, my liver function has been affected and every time I have a blood test with a locum GP in the local surgery, they always ask if I am a heavy drinker. Most annoying as I am not. My liver has been affected by the various drugs administered over an 18 year period and I know I am having to live with this for the rest of my life but hey, that is a minor concern.

Your question regarding mouth ulcers is I am sure a major concern. Again your consultant or doctor should be able to answer your concerns and provide some assistance. It is however a symptom of ITP/low platelet count in some sufferes and is very unpleasant. The only advice I can give on this is to use a good mouth wash daily so should you have blood blisters, they will not become infected.

I would riterate Anthonly Heard's words in an answer to another question, that you can always ask for a second opinion from a haematologist who is a specialist in ITP. Your own consultant may not like this but you are at liberty to ask or even go direct. The ITP support group can provide assistance in this connection. They have access to consultants who have specialist knowledge of this extremely difficult condition throughout the country. My consultant is the first to admit this is not his field and has been advised by advisers to the ITP support group with problems cases.

I know it is extremely worrying, upsetting and can be very uncomfortable, but keep your pecker up and look on the bright side if at all possible. There is always somebody worse off than you.

I hope this is helpful and shall look forward to reading that your health has returned to a more stable existence, even with ITP!

Hi sailor, thanks for your advice. I will turn to the ITP support group. It is hard when you are in the thick of it to see beyond the next day. With having to attend hospital four times a week it does not give much time to look elsewhere. I cannot fault the effort that my team are putting into helping me, but at the end of the day I only have one life and I want to live it to the full in the best health possible.
