Hi all
Has anyone heard of the above virus and its link to ITP and a possible cause?
I think it's a bacteria not a virus. Have a Google, there is lots of information out there.
It is bacteria in the gut. Diagnosis of ITP is a process of exclusion - H Pylori is one of those things that must be excluded so you would normally have a test for it in the early stages of ITP.
"Four tests are used to detect H. pylori:
Blood antibody test. A blood test checks to see whether your body has made antibodies to H. pylori bacteria. ...
Urea breath test. A urea breath test checks to see if you have H. pylori bacteria in your stomach. ...
Stool antigen test. ...
Stomach biopsy."
Hi Sachmo. I have never heard of this nor the link to ITP but it is strange as I had many stomach issues as a child so much so that I have had pollops inmy stomach since I was 12. So I am wondering if there is something there... going to look into it more.
Yes I had it and I have itp but i was given antibiotics for it and I was good after that.... like the other post say it's a bacteria in the gut....also if you had a splenectomy due to your ITP we r proned to get infections
Yes, it's a bacteria, and can live in your body for decades before symptoms appear. I was diagnosed with h.pylori and treated twice, in the early 90s, after ITP symptoms had been appearing for years. I was not diagnosed with ITP until 2000. I imagine this bacteria was one of the causes of the ITP...
You can ask your doc for a pric test. They test your finger and it shows up like a pregnancy test. Just had mine done today!
