My dad is in a Coma..

My dad about 4 days ago went to Walmart to get some ice cream & some drinks. He has asthma so we believe he had a asthma attack & went into cardiac arrest. My family & I believe it wasn’t any more then 5-10 min without oxygen to his brain by the time he was revived by the Police/EMT. They got his pulse back after a few min without it. They had him heavily sedated & on a whole bunch of meds. They said everything was fine, so yesterday at 3, they decided to take him off most of the meds to see if he would wake up by himself, well yesterday my mom spoke to a doctor who wasn’t very kind when saying “You have a better chance of winning the lottery than ur husband waking up” this really hurt her. She has so much faith, me as well. I’ve heard plenty of miracle stories & people who’ve been told they’d never wake up but they do. My dads been a fighter is whole life, strongest man I know, 59 years old. But, as of right now he’s in a coma still. Minimal brain activity which is the usual for being in a coma (So I heard) he’s had about 2 seizures which the nurse said was not uncommon either. His eyelids just opened partially yesterday for the first time since all of this. Still unconscious for the most part, but I just wanna know if anyone has a similar story and if things went well? I’ve heard some people had the same thing said to them & recovered.. please any sense of hope would be great. My dad is my everything

Appreciate this a lot more than you’ll ever know. Family’s a mess & any hope like this is well needed

From what you know, did you have any type of improvements over time or did you just wake up?

I showed signs of improvement but then dipped dramatically- my family said it was the worst rollercoaster, hope one minute, utter demoralisation the next. I hope your father improves soon. When he wakes, it will start all over again - up & down - keep your chin up

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you for your kind words.

Sorry, forgot to ask, but was there anything wrong with your Brain at the time of all this? My dad was told his brain activity is minimal like 16%..

Honestly I don’t know, apparently I had numerous CT, MRI scans and X-rays, probs & procedures to try and assess level of damage but it was all guess work. All scans were indicators not certainty. The human body is remarkable as is the brain, it can learn how to circumnavigate damage. Hope springs eternal.

What a cruel thing for the doctor to say. My family were told I had a 1% chance of survival and to prepare for the worst. I hope they were told more tactfully than this. I was critically ill for different reasons than your dad but I'm still here. You say he's strong so he'll be in there fighting his way out. Good luck to you all.

I'm praying for your dad Sir. I'm going through something very similar. Keep the faith and send nothing but positive vibes and prayers his way.

My fiance is 56 CLOSE to your dads age so hes got a fighting chance. Listen dont listen to some of those doctors they are very insensitive and are following "protocol" as to not give up false hope, but guess what were all human. The brain is the most sensitive organ with so many capacities. My fiancé had cardiac arrest as well and they were ready to pull his feed day 3, but almost 50 days later he can move his body, listen to me and follow command, and he cries. Losing oxygen is just so tough on our body that we need time to recover and thats what my man, and your dad need. TIME!!! I know its tough and I will give you any advice I CAN, aLSO get a diffuser and put the oil frankincense in it now and keep it in his room it has great properties to protect and nurture the brain for functionality. Try to run it all day. Also ask if they will give him fish oil. Google everything im saying just so you know and definitely check youtube. I cant stress how important it is to TALK TO HIM, SING HIS FAV SONGS, HVE YOUR MOM TALK TO HIM AND REMIND HIM OF THEIR MEMORIES ,AND CHECK OUT YOUTUBE THEY HAVE BINAURAL MUSIC FOR BRAIN ACTIVITY im sorry this happened but good luck to you guys and much hope fo your dad ill be praying for you guys hope this helps a bit

Thank you so much for the ideas. Glad to hear your fiancé is doing better. If you don’t mind me asking, when did he wake up? Was he able to breathe on his own before he woke up?

Thank you. Sadly, tomorrow my family has decided it’d be time to pull the plug & let him go out peacefully like he deserves.
