Morning,

I purchased an annual worldwide travel insurance policy in April of this year through a company called Direct Travel - direct-travel.co.uk

On this occasion, they came up with the best price for me. The year before, I took a policy with good to go insurance, but the renewal was much higher, which is why I decided to shop around.

Hope this helps and hope you have a wonderful holiday,

Ria.

Thanks Ria! I'll have a look at them now.

Saga

Stay Sure

Travel Guard

There used to be a blanket ban but it has now lifted after our charity rattled the cage of the ABI - now trying to lift the ban on life assurance but that's more difficult!

If you have just had a clotting episode you may still find it difficult to get cover so you'd be best off contacting a company who deals with pre-existing medical conditions like Freedom Insure. However, the premiums will be high.

If one has never had a clot when taking out the travel insurance, how does one declare it? As APS or blood disorder with no episode?

Always declare it as APS otherwise your claim could be invalid - they don't like paying out at the best of times so make sure you're very clear. You can still have APS and no clotting episode - some people are carriers and some women only have pregnancy problems.

I owned a travel agency (in the States) and was certified for selling travel insurance. This was some years ago, so my information may not be totally current, nor may my memory - so this is just a general guideline! When buying travel insurance, you want to buy from a reputable company for starters. Secondly, look for pre-existing conditions. Make sure that they are covered. That can be a sticky (no pun intended) area. If there are any questions, call and talk to the agent and ask questions. There are some companies that might tell you they will cover you just to get your business, read the small print! - , a good company may cover you and it may cost more but it will be worth it.

My husband and I have used columbus for last couple of years and they are great, They processed the cliam we have had to make a last summer (it was for husband) the whole matter was dealt with within a week of our return to the UK.

We are off to switzerland this summer and it going to cost us about £55-60 for a weeks insurance that covers APS last TIA was 2011.

Only one thing you need to be really clear with everything. Declare everything and you will not go wrong. Shop around to find one that meets your needs

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the info guys.

In the end, I've gone with goodtogo.

Tried a few of the others with differing results... AA wouldn't insure, insureandgo wouldn't insure, Barclays were very expensive, Direct Travel were about the same price as goodtogo but these offered cover for more eventualities.

It's not easy, is it?

Helen.
