Having spent 9 days in hospital and posted a question on this site about it, I am pleased to report that my speech is coming back slowly. I find when I wake up the pain in my head ( I wouldn't call it a headache) is bad and I have difficulty forming words and have to think hard about what i am wanting to say. Gradually my speech improves throughout the day, though its nowhere near right, and I still have difficulty with long words and 'th' words in particular. I am still having difficulty walking too but am using a walking frame as I need to get some exercise as I don't want clots, and weakness in my left arm at times. I have been diagnosed as having a malfunction in my brain.
The latest problem for me is I had a bone density scan 2 weeks ago and the results have come back showing ' a significant decrease in bone mass since the last scan in 2004 and the risk of spine fracture is high'. So I have osteoporosis again! At least I know it can be treated, I had previously had it for ten years, with two yearly bone densityscans until 2004 when it was in the 'normal' range. Wondered if anyone else had problems with this.

Hi there, I am glad that you have had some comprehensive investigations at that some sense of normality is returning. Glad to hear about the rapid detection of the osteoporosis and hopefully the commencement of swift treatment, that at least you are familiar with. I hope you have friends and family around, best wishes to you for the rest of the week-end, and keep us all posted. Mary F x
Thanks Mary. I last had osteoporosis after being on heparin throughout my pregnancy with my daughter who is now 19. Was told there was a 5% chance of getting osteoporosis when I was older but got it at 35, a few months after her birth. Maybe though my bones were bad before the heparin so cant definitely say it was heparin induced osteoporosis.
Anyway I'm seeing the rheumatologist on thursday so will be starting the treatment soon i expect, also the Plaquenil. Hope you can get Plaquenil in an oral solution cos I cant take tablets!!
What lovely weather we've got here in Plymouth! Hope you have too!
Found your blog, sorry to hear that you have been in hospital with the walking, head etc. Like you my head feels so hot and thick and last week the pain in the back of my head, well I did ask the Haem last year about the pain well before ST T and he referred me to ENT but they did not find anything and then when I was telling them that my mother consequences they still did not listen and then the vision loss, like a blind coming down in left hand side eye, luckily was near to Eye Infirmary and that is when put on Clopidigrel (I was on Heparin since being in hospital) obviously I needed something stronger. This was a year ago and I touch every piece of wood going as I want to get better. The sun helps doesn't it - I have been low the last couple of weeks due to weather!!! My daughter doing A levels and the stress from her rubs onto me.
I have had hundreds of TIA's ( mini strokes ) due to my APS. My head goes in a fog. I can't remember the words for things and I get bad headaches.I have found it usually happens because my coumadin level has fallen too low. They keep my INR between 3.5 & 4.0 to try to prevent problems. But the level frequenty falls too low and I have problems.
My speech went completely! For 6 days I couldn't say a word. Its only the last few days when my speech has improved in the afternoons after being able to say only one syllable words when I wake up.
My INR has been all over the place recently. I have to be between 3 and 4 but i've been between 2.5 and 5.7.
I have osteomalacia because of low vitamin D, and high parathyroid results. I have problems understanding the biochemistry of this, but thought I would mention it to you in case it has some connection with your osteoporosis. My rheumatologist is very interested in the vitamin D connections with Lupus etc.
Ostemalacia is problems with your bones. You might find this website helpful to explain what it is: arthritisresearchuk.org/art...
Has your doctor been treating you for this? My experience lately was that my gp did a vitamin D test that showed my vit D had increased to a normal level so she would have left it at that. However, when I went to the endochronologist at the hospital he told me that because my PTH was high, I still needed treatment with vitamin D and follow-up and more tests to find out the cause.
My dad passed away 8 months ago because of brain stroke. I'm so sorry to hear about your father. It sounds as if it was very sudden and unexpected. Remembering all the happy times you had together and laughing about incidents that happened will help a little bit in your grief. I'm sure he is watching over you and your family so gain comfort from this.
