They are different diseases, different sets of antibodies cause them, sometimes people have lupus and it affects their brain (cerebral lupus).
You have to be diagnosed with lupus first to have this. Then people can also get Hughes syndrome which can affect the brain but different antibodies to Lupus cause it. Sometimes people have both at the same time. Treatments options are different for each condition so diagnosis is important.
