Anyone taken amoxicilin (antibiotics) while on warfarin? just wondering how it might affect my INR levels?

Hi i have taken Amoxicilin while on warfarin and my INR went down. I have been told by the anticoagulation dept to always have an INR test done a week after starting any new tablet. Hope this helps you. regards Carole-J

Hi, I took Amoxicilin last year when I had a lung infection. The infection itself will make your INR go up, and then it should naturally come back down again once the treatment kicks in

Hi my doctor always prescribes amoxicillin when i get an infection due to my low white blood cells. Everyone is different with regards to how it affects your INR but as long as you get your inr checked while your on the antibiotics and a few days after youve finished the course there shouldnt be a problem.

welcome to the group i hope you find the answer to your question and you will always find a friendly face to help on here.

I took amoxicillin for a infection and i was told it would mess with my INR and to be checked a few days after taking it, and depending on which way it went they acted accordingliy with my it sent my INR really low and i had to have a clexaine injection so get it checked after a few days and see where your at as the drug will be in your sytem fully after 48 hours and you get an idea of how you will react to it.

Thanks for all your responses.... Much as I thought really, but was a bit nervous in taking them. Started taken them yesterday and things already seem to be improving so pleased with that!! As for INR - will keep testing!!
