in 1988 I was 7 years old and a adenoid and tonsils removal was suggested as I was always ill .
My op was At Birmingham children’s hospital . All seemed to go well with the op they said but my mom thought differently I looked see-through and as she and a nurse sat me up to drink a sip of water. I proceeded to projectile vomit blood everywhere and I mean everywhere ! my mom and the nurse were drenched my bed too and there was a massive puddle on the floor, they rushed me back to theatre where they discovered i had either been cut or my adenoids hadn’t been cauterised properly and I was bleeding internally since my op, they packed my nose up with reams if gauze and gave me a blood transfusion to save my life ! all had been fixed and I went home a week later . I didn’t go back to school right away I just wasn’t feeling good , then one day not long after my mom looked at me and I was covered front and back with a red rash and my skin ( that wasn’t red) and eyeballs were yellow, I was taken to the drs where I was diagnosed with hepatitis ( we think c but it was 35 odd years ago ). Now with the infected blood inquiry I’m joining some dots and have symptoms like weight loss, inflamed joints , bad chronic pain, mornings stiffness, fatigue and I had gallstones and had gall bladder removed ofc the rash and jaundice and the kicker is I have t2d and they have diagnosed me with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease but what if my livers been bad all along before the t2d as I’ve not been tested in my liver before I had that , I also can remember a blood test in the last 20 yrs where my white blood count wasn’t raised suggesting I am fighting something off constantly . I now have a app booked in with GP next week and am going to ask to have a copy of my medical records
All I know is my mother was kept quite in the dark with an explanation where I could have got hepatitis C at the age of 7 having no idea about infected blood At the time
Let me know if anyone here has had a similar experience and I will keep this post updated if it will help someone
