Hepatitis B and Isolation

Running the Freephone UK Hep B national Helpline for 12 years has taught us a lot about hepatitis patient needs and when we audited 1000 callers over an 9 month period we found their isolation was actually the main problem. We found 54% of patients had never had ANY discussion with anyone about their Hepatitis B and only 10% had had any kind of education in depth about their individual situation. 90% had some level of confusion from googling and therefore many major misunderstandings regarding the virus and its workings. On the helpline we found 90% of patients needed 1 hour of education with back literature to be confident in overcoming issues regarding sex, parenthood, work, life expectancy, diet, transmission and vaccination facts. In essence we found 80% of patients suffering more from depression and ignorance than any actual physical illness! Truly with less than 20% offered any medicines managing HBV is all about the facts being the medicine and the lifestyle being the cure. So get an anon user name and start asking questions for your sake and every patients sake.
