Andrew Grace; Consultant Cardiologist at Papworth Hospital and member of the Medical Advisory Committee for our sister charity AF Association has spoken to The Lancet about advancements in arrhythmia care and treatment over the past twenty years.
Dr Grace comments that where once electrophysiology was diagnostic it is now often curative. We have witnessed a great deal of change within arrhythmia care and treatment following our work to include Chapter 8 on arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death into the National Service Framework on coronary heart disease in 2005. Chapter 8 includes guidelines and markers for the prevention and treatments of patients with cardiac arrhythmias and people who may be at risk of sudden cardiac death.
