Mobitz 1 - scared

Hi everyone,

I have been told my 24hr ECG has picked up second degree heart block mobitz 1 wenkebach. I have been referred to cardiology and have just now received a telephone appointment for 13th May.

I began feeling palpatations around two months after having covid last March. I was diagnosed with hypertension which is now under control. I have had an echocardiogram which came back normal, I have also had a chest x-ray which is also normal.

I am petrified and anxiety seems to make the palpatations worse.

I am due to go abroad in just over a week and I'm scared to go.

I would just like any advice around this diagnosis and to hear anyone elses experiences with this

Thank you

Don’t be scared, Cardiologists aren’t generally bothered about and don’t treat Mobitz 1 unless there are debilitating symptoms and you are passing out.

I’ve had it some years with very few problems so it wasn’t a problem however a few years ago I did start getting pauses and pre syncope so I opted for a pacemaker. This hasn’t cured the problem but it kicks in if I get a long pause and my rate goes below 60bpm.

Thank you for your response. Had the call, they weren't going to fo any further tests just seem me again in a year for an ecg even though they said its unusual to see this at my age. They did agree at the end to refer me for a heart mri. I feel no calmer after thr call he basically said it could be the early stages of something and we will have to wait and see. Feel so overwhelmed and just want to go back to when I felt well in myself

Hello,

I was diagnosed with Mobitz Type 2 about five years ago, and had a pacemaker fitted in 2019. It does seem worrying to think of something not working properly in the heart, but I did get the impression from NHS staff that dealing with the problem is not seen as highly urgent, which I found surprising but on reflection qute reassuring. For example, after the pacemaker was recommended, it was not fitted for several months, and this was before the pandemic so procedures were not being postponed. I think (I have no medical knowledge) that if symptoms do become more noticeable, it must happen gradually. I was not advised against driving.

So, I imagine your test results show that it's safe for you to carry on as normal. I hope that when you have your telephone appointment your mind is put at rest.

Best wishes,

Thank you for your response. The call did not really help me but i am being referred for a heart MRI. Another waiting game but it's not like my block is just going to disappear unfortunately. Trying to remain calm and choose a healthier lifestyle.
