has anyone dropped HR lower than 40 BPM on Sotalol ? What steps were taken by the EP to resolve?

my husband is newly diagnosed with paroxysmal AFib -along with PVCs and PACs. We have chosen to have an RF ablation in about 6 weeks. EP Doc put him on Sotalol 80mg 2 x day. He was on this dosage for 3 days and his HR dropped into the low 40s and lower. His normal HR is 50-60 --he was exhausted, short of breath, grumpy -every step was an effort. After taking this for 1 week he had an EKG. The nurse said it looked good, the husband said his heart felt fluttery. Doc called & said he had some skipped heartbeats which were nothing to worry about. He cut his Sotalol down to 40 mg 2 x day. The exhaustion isn't as bad but the husband said he feels like when in Afib his heart is beating faster than it had been. Perhaps he is in a catch 22 situation. Too little med and high rate during Afib, dosage for high rate during Afib and he is a walking zombie. Has anyone else experienced this? What helped?

Thank you for the in put
