Hi - Just wondering how many people have had failed ablations and what the next course of action was after? I've had two that haven't worked and just wondering what everyone else's options were?

Sophie, have you signed into the AF Association? You'll be sure to get much quicker responses on there and some great encouragement

Sophie,

I was diagnosed at 21 years old (1993) with cardiomyopathy and A-fib and am now 43. The cardiomyopathy was resolved over time.

I had 2 RF ablations several years ago and am part of the 1% that has pulmonary stenosis in both left PV's - one is 100% occluded and the other is 75%. After stents and several angioplasty procedures we have decided to leave them alone. I am doing well and no real limitations.

After my second ablation, I was able to go ~5yrs without any meds. Gradually the AF returned and for the last 7 to 8 years I have been on Flecanide and Bystolic with very good control. This is progress because before the ablations I failed all other drug therapies available.

I do know the procedure has changed quite a bit to resolve the PV stenosis issue and more doctors are using Cryo (freeze) vs. RF.

Perhaps your doctor will recommend trying some of the milder anti-arrhythmic drugs that did not work for you in the past.

Keep you head up, it will work out and a lot of work is being done in the field.

All the best

Gary

Thanks Gary, the meds at the moment just don't seem to be touching it. Will see what my new cardioloigists advises at the end of Jan! :)
