I don't know if anyone can help, but I was lying in bed just now just doing computer stuff and my heart stopped for a beat, actually stopped. Obviously it's really unsettled me. I've been having palpitations recently but heart has never actually stopped before. Should I be overly worried?

heart skipped a beat
Sound like a skipped beat, or to be exact, ectopic beat, which does feel like a stop until the next beat loads. Which sometimes occurs with a lot of AF people. Nothing to worry about, and is not a concern. Regular symptom. UNLESS, you think your heartbeat is actually stopping, therefore see the doctor.
Be well

This is how my AF started nine years ago. I was also lying in bed listening to heart missing a beat here and there, plus palpitations. I thought the palpitations were panic attacks but when I saw my GP he said it was an irregular heartbeat and I needed a pacemaker. I am not suggesting you are at that stage as mine went on for a couple of years prior to this. but you should still see doc for checkup.
I agree with AnnR, go to your GP, if only to give yourself the assurance there is nothing untoward.
First, you should not be lying in bed and using the computer, the position of your body is placing stress on the heart. You should be sitting upright at the correct angle. Second, it does happen, the heart does tend to go a little erratic. To be sure, check with your GP.
I have missed heart beats.. The doc said my heart rhythm is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes I miss 3 heart beat in 15 seconds.. The missed beats seem to come for a few days then go for a few days? Nothing seems to cause it as far as I can work out.. I used to to be really concerned about it all but I'm not so much concerned anymore.. See your doc he will give you an ecg to see if you are in regular rythme..XX
Skipped beats are scary but normal as long as you don't have dizziness, you should be fine. If it happens again or worsens, get it checked out.
