Yes, Iv`e had the occasional skipped beat since I was 15, & about 15 years ago they became more frequent. I went for tests, & was told that i have 1st degree heart block, which has scared the hell out of me. I`m told that I don`t need any treatment, & it`s harmless, but I can`t help worrying that it`ll get worse & I`ll need a pacemaker. I don`t know why I have it, because there`s no family history of it to my knowledge.

Thanks for your reply...........Do you get them every day or just now and again. What is a heart block??? I am missing beats about 3 times in a minute for hours,,, then it goes okay ..scary,, just don't know what it is...I did a 24 hour monitor 2 weeks ago, not heard anything yet..also Ive had a HA and stent 2 and a half years ago... I just wonder how others in my position have been getting along with it...

Hi,

Those gaps that make you think your heart has skipped a beat are usually due to "ectopics". What happens is that the electrical impulse which causes the heart to beat occurs before there is any blood in the ventricle to pump, so when the ventricle contracts there is nothing to pump so you get a "gap" . Ectopic in medical terms means out of place. I get them too, mine are due to atrial fibrillation which you can learn more about if you go to the AF Association community on this site.

I get loads of ectopics. Sometimes called extra beats or missed beats. They're quite normal, people get about 200 a day apparently, but I get about 500 an hour, or I used to till they found a drug that works on me, now got a regular pulse for a change. I wouldn't worry about getting the amount you appear to be getting, just wait to see your cardio and see what he'/she says. Good luck, Koll

PS. I said I get 500 an hour, I just invented that, never counted them, but I do get absolutely loads and in clusters.

I used to have ectopic beats more than 15 years back , all my tests are normal and all my doctors confirmed they are harmless

Pls check my recent post related to this issue in this community

I'm getting around 800 daily , my EP doctor informed me that they consider treatment when ectopic beats exceeds 10 thousands a day or the patient is complaining from its symptoms

Recently I had EP study and ablation procedure for the ectopic beats but it was not successful since I didn't have enough ectopic beats during the study so they could not identify their source unfortunately

I'm not on any medication right now , I just started anti anxiety drug to help reduce my anxiety which has negative impact on this issue

Regards

Thank you everyone ,, so helpful.... I am feeling more relaxed about them now,,, I just feel them still quite often but they are quite mild really I guess... I wonder sometimes if its anything to do with meds for the heart,, but I guess I will never get to the bottom of that...x
