Convalescent care after open heart valve repair

I now have more questions. I may be able to have two weeks convalescent care when released from private hospital. Question 1 are there many follow up appointments needed at private hospital that did op? Will I need wound inspection or dressings changed?

Question 2 what should I look for in the 'convalescent' home? Are there specific post op homes or will I be part of a general care home?

Question 3. Does the home have to have specific care for post op patients?

Question 4. Most important can I transfer back to NHS?

I look forward to some information on these questions so appreciate your replies.

I think the dressing will be removed before you are discharged. Follow up is with cardiac team in community if you are with the nhs or contacts at hospital. Sorry don’t know about postop care in care home - wouldn’t your own be best with help?

Thanks for dressing info. As my husband's carer I have looked after him for some years. And it will be difficult to shift these habits although we will have carers. So I want to escape for 2 weeks. But you are right. At home would be better. I guess I will have plenty of opportunity after the 2 weeks. 😊
