Hello Can anyone give advise on hearing aids I have had my hearing tested and told what I already know that my hearing is not good and I need hearing aids in both ears. I am finding it difficult to get any good information on the type, make or indeed price of hearing aid that is giving good results to users.

See your GP, he can arrange for a hearing test at your local hospital, and they will supply you with the hearing aids free of charge

Thanks for the advise, I live in Ireland and we do not get supplied with free hearing aids. I have bought Widex hearing aids and so far I am very happy with them.

If your hearing has deaerated a lot go to the GP for a referral as outlets that do hearing aids (YOU PAY AT BOOTS) or Specsavers who do NHS aids don't go up to the same level as the hospital and the aids they offer will more than likely not be right for your loss. I went to them (as I was insulted by a hearing aid technician at the hospital) I was forever going back as I just couldn't hear, finally they said with the level of hearing loss I had they could not do anything more, Finally bit the bullet went back to GP referred me to another hospital in the district and now have aids that work for my level of hearing loss. So as already stated get a referral and you will be sorted within a month.

Recently I was issued with two new hearing aids and was informed that they were suitable for reception of TV programmes via the inductive loop. My old hearing aids were fitted with a 3 position switch . Positions 1 and 2 were to facilitate ambient TV reception and position 3, (- also known as the' T' position), was for direct inductive connection to the loop on the TV. There was no volume control. The new aids have two switches, each with a volume control. However, there is no obvious connection from the aid to an inductive loop on the TV. Have I been issued with the wrong type? I am aware that the answer lies with my local audiology department, but they are always very busy and I hesitate to bother them with what might be a simple oversight on my part. Can anyone help please? Bob444 ________________________________________
