Hearing Aid Charging Issues

Does anyone else have problems charging their hearing aids. I`ve had my rechargeable aids for three years and during that time I have had three new charger boxes. There is always one aid that doesn`t always go to solid green.

They`ve been back to Phonak twice. I keep them and the box clean, have them regularly updated but still the problem persists.

Previous to this I had analogue hearing aids and often wish that I`d never had rechargeable.

I`d appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Thanks for replying.

I`ve had hearing aids since 2014. First were NHS then I bought from Boots a pair of Phonak Analogue Aids then in 2021 had my current digital hearing aids. I`ve started to think it must be me that is doing something not quite right.

I`ll keep plodding on until I sort it out. Luckily I still have my analogue ones in good working order so I always have them to fall back on.

I had the analogue ones for years, then the little black thing on the end of the tube came off in my ear i went to ampliphon ,my supplier, they could not get it out , then my doc couldn't get it out so they sent me to A and E who managed to get it out. so i went to a different audiologist and got the re chargeable ones. good move i think.

Yes they are good. Other than the charging problem I`m happy with mine too.

I've had rechargeable Oticon aids for about 3 years and they've been very good, never failing to charge. Are you sure you put them in the charger the right way round?

Hi Thanks for replying.

I`ve also had my Phonak rechargeable aids for three years and they`ve always been a bit iffy where charging is concerned. I`m now on my third charger box. I`ve had two mini boxes one of which was a replacement from Phonak and have recently bought another box called a combi box which is also compatible with my aids.

What happens is - I put my aids in the charger - they immediately start to charge going first to yellow and then green. But with my first box I couldn`t rely on the right aid going to solid green and my last two boxes the left aid doesn`t always go to solid green. Then it keeps flashing for about six hours and then goes to solid red.

I`ve been back to Boots a few times and the aids and boxes have been sent away to Phonak twice but it makes no difference. I`ve been told by the audiologist at Boots that it could be that the firmware is not up to date, the box and the contacts need cleaning or that the aids need rebooting. All these thing have been done and they`re still the same. I`m pretty sure that it`s not the aids that are at fault because if I insert the left aid into the right side it fully charges and goes to solid green.

I honestly think that these charger boxes are not fit for purpose but I don`t think I`ll ever convince Boots or Phonak.

I am managing at the moment by using the red inserts on two boxes and putting one aid in each - both in red slots. And I still have my old analogue aids to fall back on.

If I had my time over again I`d have stuck with analogue aids - I never minded changing the batteries.

I`m due a review at Boots in July so I`ll see what happens then - I still have a year`s warranty left but I think when that`s up I shall be going to another provider - we have a very good audiologist just along the road from us where I have my ears syringed and she`s said she`ll take on my current hearing aids - be more expensive though.

I see you`re happy with your Oticon aids - I don`t think I would have Phonak again although I was always satisfied with my analogue ones.
