3 years after surgery

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to post an update nearly 3 years since I had a total hysterectomy and both ovaries removed and feel fantastic.

It’s not all been plain sailing for me I had to have vertical incision due to the size of my degenerated fibroid mass I had a squashed kidney, my ovaries were removed due to my previous cysts.

I would recommend both ovaries being removed by it is your own choice. Only that when I did my research lots of people had problems with the one ovary being left but everyone is different and as I say for me this was my decision which I may add was made on the day of surgery.

My best advise is to rest up and not do a thing. My wound opened up slightly and I had to lay completely still and get up only to go to the loo or eat or drink for 24 hours as stick on stitches were applied next day I was fine again

I am quite an active person and am a nightmare at relaxing but your body will tell you.

I used to get up have a wash come downstairs and lay on the sofa for the morning have my lunch and go to bed in the afternoon with a good book.

My family supported my greatly but don’t reject an offer of help as you will reject it and will not aid your recovery.

For those of you brave enough to watch the surgery on You Tube you will fully understand why you are bruised and sore.

All the best and take care

Thank you for this post! I am in month 7 of recouping from a total and hysterectomy....thinking I should be my old self! Also I had complications as my stitches inside opened and my intestines were coming thru...so 9 days later I had a second surgery which ended up with a wound vac for 10 weeks...so I will keep going forward and hopefully I can say in time I feel fantastic too.

Really positive update, thank you for sharing.

I had my hysterectomy 8 days ago. Like you, I also had my ovaries removed. Also similar to you, I’m quite active so struggling to rest. How long did you rest for?

My pain isn’t a patch on pre-op so that’s really positive. My challenges are the fatigue and nausea. The nausea is definitely worse in the mornings and has got deteriorated since I started the HRT patch. Did you have this?

Thanks again for sharing your story.
